same as western boxing, i used to take boxing and all they said was to beat someone up.

Muay Tai is a martial art. Don't mistake Muay Tai for American Kick Boxing which is strictly a sport like american boxing. Which also origionated hundreds of years ago as a martial art. It's only the modern western societies prodominantly the US that has turned alot of martial arts into sports and changed them to suite the sporting comunity. For instance Olympic style Karate and Tai Kwan Do

All fighting systems are considered to be martial arts, Kung Fu, Karate, Muay Thai, kickboxing, western boxing, Greco-Roman wrestling. Even the use of European sword is considered to be a martial art.

According to the dictionary definition of the word martial : 1. pertaining tyo war, suited to war. The term martial is derived from the name fo the Roman god of war Mars. Thus Martial Arts are literally the Arts of War. The term has coloquially come to be used as the designation for ANY fighting art.

because it's a art where you use hands to hands combat to overcome the aggressor. That's basic theory of ALL martial arts! That's one thing that all martial arts train for. If not then half of martial arts would not be about fight!
