Yes they were married, but after the conception of Jesus. His conception was immaculate, and was born of God. Mary was a virgin, until after Jesus was born. Mary & Joseph had several more children; Jesus had brothers and sisters. The father of Jesus siblings was Joseph.

When Mary conceived Jesus, she was betrothed to Joseph. Being betrothed meant something different than it does not. It was a legally binding contract. They were, in a sense, married - without the benefit of living together, or having sex.
During this time (usually a year) the husband would prepare a house for his bride, and the bride would prepare herself, learning the responsibilities fo being a wife.
Then he would come and get her - usually without much warning....

nice question,
see in those days it was taboo was a women to get pregnant without marrying
Mary bore Jesus, the son of God whom she conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
Mary probably was officialy married to Joseph
as the Bible indirectly points out that they go to register themselves
something like a court marriage what we would call today
probably not ritually
moreover, mary being married to joseph, doesn't make her loose he virginity
she was married but never had a sexual relationship with him
becuase we still consider her to be pure, and born without original sin
the bottomline: legally mary was married to joseph but being married didn't make her loose her virginity
the marriage was for namesake
becuase through JEwsih law if a woman bore a child without being marriedshe would have been stoned to death

The social- economic relationship between Mary and Joseph before they got married doesn't directly translate into modern society. They were closer than betrothed, closer than engaged, closer than fiance's but less than married. If you notice that when Joe found out Mary was pregnant he wanted to divorce her "in secret"- this way, she would be able to restart her life, and it would be a thing of honor for her. He wouldn't be embarassed for having his woman pregnant prior to being married- it was a social thing.

Yes, they were married BEFORE Jesus was born, but they had no intercourse until AFTER Jesus was born, and they went on to have sons and daughters. Mary was a virgin until just after she gave birth to the Messiah.

The ACTUAL bible never claims Mary was a virgin. Directly translated the word they use in the original text means YOUNG.

I really don't know how to answer that question for you. What I know is that Mary was a virgin, I've never read that anywhere, or even heard of that.
sorry I wasn't of much help.
