I favour a nice clean Ford Escort S Reg about £1500.
40mpg for 1600 cheap spares and labour cost.
BMW and Volvo will be three times the cost to run in all areas.
Insurance, servicing, spare parts etc.

From the NCAP site (www.euroncap.com) the 4 star cars that you could buy for 2K would be the VW Lupo/Seat Arosa, or the Skoda Fabia. If you can spot a bargain the Yaris, or a 2000onw. Corsa has 4 too.

I have a T reg Corsa. It's a great little car it's retail price would be £1700-£1900. It's got power steering and a CD player and I feel really safe in it. It drives really well for an older car.

You might be able to find a Peugeot 206 W/X reg for 2k. It has a 4 star NCAP rating.

for safety and small size but can fit 5 adults well, and at 2 grand=
merc a-class= engine slides under in impact, high safety standard, merc= high quality, engine to last, built to last unlike other brands(its no conincidence why u see many old merc out there). less likely to need to replace worn cheap parts like other makes because merc is quality.
20 yr old mercs still on the roads now!!!

A Nissan Micra. My daughter had one and had a bad accident but came out unhurt-the car took the punishment weel-it has side impact bars.

my mam has a nissan micra it was second hand so it was only about 600 pounds but it's realy nice and you feel safe in it.
