For instance some say that the pentecotsal stance on salvation is by faith and works, then cite baptism as an example.

Has no one heard that baptism isn't our work but God's?
I know pentecostals do not believe in faith + works for salvation, that salvation is by God's grace ... but obedience to His Word is a requirement for those who would be called His.

Obedience can hardly be called a "work".

Faith and works are mutually inclusive. You cannot have one without the other. For who will do something without believing in what he is doing. Jesus said we must take faith in a simple way, as a child. So many want to argue and dispute the faith/works issue because they do not understand that faith without works is dead faith. ( not alive )

In James 2:20 and 26 the bible clearly says that "faith without works is dead."

I don't, however think that this means what the pentecostal denominations claim that it means.

What that really means is that if you have faith that Jesus is the savior of mankind, you will believe and live by the things he said and did.

The faith is in what Jesus did, not what we can and can't do. If humans were capable of doing the "works of God," Jesus wouldn't have been necessary.

Well, there is a common belief in Pentecostal circles (particularly the holiness ones) that if a saved person goes out and commits sins, he/she is not going to make it into heaven. This is basically un-salvation by works, so it leads to the idea of salvation by works. According to them, you only make it if you follow all the rules (works).

You have to remember there is different sects of pentecostals like there is baptist. Some baptist believe you can lose your salvation and some dont. Some pentecostals believe you have to talk in tongues to prove your saved. Well if anyone has ever studied tongues in the bible its just a language not some jibberish stuff. And if anyone has ever studied salvation in the bible they would no Jesus holds us in His hands where no man can pluck us out. We are forever saved if your truly saved.
