i dyed the roots of my hair yesterday, because they were about 3 cm long. My natural color is almost black, but i dyed it golden brown. However, i'm not satisfied with the color i got after dyeing the roots, because it is too dark. i was very sad. i wanted something a lighter, like Eva Longoria's new look. How long must i wait before i can dye my hair again without destroying it?
I must mention i have long, healthy hair, but i don't want to harm it. Any advices instead of redying so soon?

I think you would be able to redye right away. The only time you truly have to worry about breakage is if you bleached your hair, which you didn't do.

Be sure to use a deep conditioner on your hair immediately afterwards and every day for a while. I would avoid using a lot of products, hair dryers and irons on it for a few days.

But I don't think you will destroy your hair, since it is healthy.

Another way to get rid of the dark color that you hate is to wash it A LOT. The more you wash, the more the color will fade. If you use a harsh shampoo like Head N Shoulders it will strip the color even faster.

If u must try to get the color of Eva Longoria....try a spray. They sell these at Sally's and most Beauty Supply Stores. U may not get the exact tint but u should get a pretty close match and u will be able to all of your roots through. U might leave some of the what is dyed to get low light or dark lights instead of an all over color like highlights. That is probable your best bet if u cannot dye right now.

Well, rule #1 to dying hair is that you can't lighten dye with dye. If you lighten your hair further, at this point, you will just be lightening the hairs underneath and can end up with some funky results... The best thing to do is to go to a beauty supply store, buy something to strip the color out of your hair and start over with a good color. Remember that previously dyed/processed hair is much more porous (absorbant) than virgin hair... That is why you have to leave the stuff on the roots so much longer than the ends...

As to how long you have to wait, In theory, you don't really have to wait at all. If your hair can handle it, do it. However, if you have damaged hair, or over-processed hair, you might want to wait for a little while (a couple days to a couple weeks) to let your hair naturally repair itself. If you have oily hair, just wait till it gets greasy looking (a couple days) and go from there. USE GOOD CONDITIONER!!!!!!! Spend the $10 for a small bottle of good stuff. It's SO worth it. And don't ever use hair dye that your purchase from a grocery store or anything like that. Go to a professional supply store (Sally's)...

Since you have dark hair, you should consider trying something by Loreal (i believe?) It comes in a red and black box and it says "HI-LIFT" on it. It's for people with dark hair who want to go much lighter. I have dark brown hair and I go a bright intense red color. It works really well and it is specially designed for people going dark to light.

So, if your hair is healthy and not frizzed out from being messed with, carry on with caution. And only use the best stuff. If you mess it up, hair grows really slowly...

:) good luck!

What's wrong with your natural color? You got self-issues? Yes, you need to just leave it for quite a bit or you will indeed be sorry. Look on the products you use - they should tell you something on the package or insert - or give you a number you can call them - or go to their website and ask there somehow if they don't have a FAQ section. Sorry I can't be more specific but you didn't say what products you use.

Why you messin' w/your hair? Black hair is sensual, sexy!

diegobass...
then why isit we asians are crazy about dyeing our hair to caucasian colours (golden..brown..red..and blue..ok well blue is not a caucasian colour hair hehe) and yet caucasians dont seem to be doing the opposite, getting their hair from brown/golden/red to black colour???
I hate my black hair too..

anyway back to the actual question poster, i tink the safest is to outgrow the hair an dye the new hair cos dyeing ur hair damages it to some extent..no matter how long u wait it will stil be damaged..so damaging it again well..if u really canot stand it, i suggest you wait ~ 3 months? meantime use really good conditioners to help ur hair as much as u can..

since u have dyed it twice..
id recommened to wait a week or two.
so that your hair has time to regenerate some oils.
otherwise it might dry it out.
