No love is not worth dying for.
Love is your gift to someone or the world.
You can be stingy or generous with it or manipulate your giving of it in line with what YOU want and what you are focused on. This might depend on if you are inwardly or outwardly focused.
Creating love with a really strong bond can be worth it in many ways (as much for the journey as the result), so that you go to tremendous lengths to make it happen.
However we learn more from our mistakes than we do from our successes and making a mistake or not achieving a result should never excluded you from attempting something that you want again (ref: to dying)
It sounds like you have a lot of passion, please use this and make it work for you, not everybody has this gift.
A more inspiring way of looking at this for me is the quote (i have forgotten the source) that says
"Live today as if it was your last day on earth"

Yes it is! don't ever give love if it is not everything that you have, for me Love is not worth if is limited only to a certain extent. It's fooling somebody that is what I call it, or should i say CONDITIONAL LOVE. OR LOVE FOR A REASON.

Not! You need to survive so you can write a good tragic romance and make a few quid from the event!
