I work near an obese man and I can hear him breathing all day long. Raspy breaths in, out, in, out. He doesn't have asthma or anything. It's just because he's fat. I already have my radio up as loud as is acceptable. Do I have the right to say something? I know he has to breathe, but it's so annoying I could scream.

Wow, this country really does have a problem. Look at all the excuses for the fat guy! Oh poor man, poor guy, he can't help it, etc. I don't consider myself hypersensitive. I've never been bothered by any other workplace noise in 15 years. This guy is over the top with his breathing!

Just tell your supervisor, that you would like to be moved to another office.

You would need to speak to your team leader.
They can organise to deal with the situation without causing staff conflict.
You could even ask to be moved if your workplace has the capacity.
They may simply choose to move everyone.
In my old office of over 100 people we were all moved around every few months.
At first it was annoying. But after a few moves we all really enjoyed it. As all our breaks are at different time, we could go months without chatting to people that worked on the same floor as us. Even though you considered yourself friends.
It kept moral strong, and meant we didn't have to deal with people with high pitch laughs, or who used repetative sayings such as "like" after every few words, for too long.

Speak confidentally to your supervisor and ask to be moved. Or get headphones for your radio and listen in up close and personal to it.

The more you let this bother you, the more you will become super-sensitive to it, that even the slightest noise will bug you more than it really should.

I guess that you could, but you risk hurting his feelings, and being frowned upon at work. I wouldn't, see if you could move away from him or something. Don't say anything, even though he is overweight, he still has to breathe. I mean what do you expect to happen if you say something about it? He can't lose weight overnight hon. And I am sure that if it were easy for him he would have already done it. Good Luck!

By showing your displeasure too directly about someone or even something usually bounced back to you as having bad self-image. Explain to your superior that his heavy breathing affect your concentration in your work and you would like to move to another work station. Meanwhile, stay cool.

It's not really suggested unless it annoys a group of you.
Either that or ask to be moved to another cubicle

wow- insensitive- there is a reason he has a breathing problem, most likely medically related- but how would you know his medical background....

you may want to try asking your manager/supervisor fro relocation due to the fact of noise interference to your work productivity. when they ask what noise, you can explain it and how it is a daily occurrence and has started to really interfere with your work productivity. This might be a proper polite way to go about it- with out coming off so insensitive

Obesity is politically incorrect to discipline. If he smoked the man would be there to help.

Wow, just hearing that makes me feel sad for him. Imagine how difficult it must be for him. Imagine that he may be someone's father or son. Please, the last thing you should do is tell him about it, what could he possibly do about his breathing?
