What are your favorite colors? Of course if it is red or a dark bright color, you might want to use soft tones of the darker color. Use colors that make you happy, everyone has a different view on color. Go to the paint department, (even thought you dont need paint) to get color ideas, your eye will draw you to the ones that turn you on. Grab color swatches that appeal to you and take them home for ideas. Id start with the curtains if you know how to sew, go to your local fabric store and pick out some fabirc that makes you warm and fuzzy, make simple curtains, it saves a lot of money and they are so much more "you" than the ugly storebought ones that are overpriced. Grab some branches from trees outside to use for a valance, decorate with a grapevine wreath (soaked and untwisted) small white lights and beautiful silk flowers in the colors you use. If you have to go with plain nuetral curtains use pillows and prints where you can for the jazz the room needs to tie the colors together. Regardless, always start with the prints that turn you on because you can always find carpet color or paint to match the pattern but not vice versa. If you like light soft colors try a soft pecan color with a few pastel shades for example. Have fun!

A light taupe Berber carpet and Drapes to match the walls. If your upholstered furniture is also a light neutral then you have a wonderful opportunity to create a room full of life and color by putting up big, splashy, color saturated pictures, buying throw pillows in luscious fabrics in a variety of colors you love and adding more color with lampshades, pottery, floral arrangements and the ultimate colorful, modern area rug. A color-filled room like this cries out for oversize plants like ficus and scheffelera and the flood of light in the room makes it an ideal environment for light loving plants.

The effect of artificial lighting on curtains is better seen if a sample gauge of fabric is pleated and held upright. Low ceiling and tiny windows, can make the interior feel dark and gloomy.

With cream colored walls you could really go with just about any color of fabric. I think a muted sage green would look nice.
