Apparently we are just supposed to believe... however I am just as dumbfounded as you. In my best guess opinion, its just a story that has been taught as truth so we may fear our sins on pain of drowning...*shrug*

Where did the water come from:

Genesis 1:6 - Let there be an expanse to separate the water from the water. And he named the expanse sky.
Genesis 7:11 - all the deep springs burst open The sky opened, and the rain came pouring down.

Where did it go? Well, if the ice caps were to melt, almost all the earth would be under water. If all the clouds rained themselves out, as well, the world WOULD be completely underwater.

Practically every mountain range in the world has a fossils of marine life. How did they get there?

It is also very possible that the land emerged from the water while the waters were receding. Before the flood it is possible that the oceans were not as deep, nor were the mountains as high. This actually would agree with much of what we know about plate tectonics.

Since we have no other record than what is in the bible, we can all put forth theories until the cows come home.

So, here's my two cents --
Where it came from? It could be possible that when God first created the earth, maybe He had an extra layer of atmosphere that not only held much water, but also acted as a filter, much like the ozone layer does. Then scripture also says there were springs under the earth that opened up. That can be true also because of scientific proof of underground rivers and caverns of water.

Where did it all disappear to? Again a guess, but I would think most is frozen in both the Artic and Anartic. And since part of the recycling process of water on the planet, maybe much returned to the springs as the water soaked into the ground.

Its a bit difficult to truly give an answer, but hopefully one day God will reveal that answer to us.

There is actually a historical allegory to the noah myth.

The Euphates river is known historically for flooding for long periods of time. One year, the rains and flooding lasted much longer than normal, and killed a huge portion of the population of the area. An ancient king loaded a barge with goods and supplies, and sailed it south, riding out the flood, until he landed in a region south of Baghdad. He made an offering in a local god's temple for his fortune in surviving the flood. Being a local event (not global), the people who fled the region took tales of this epic event with them. Eventually it found its way into the holy books as an exagerated, global event.

Most ancient religions have a story of a flood being brought about by an angry god. The epic of Gilgamesh is probably the most used example.

/* not really */ The water, yeah, 'twas spit forth from the mouth of the constellation Pisces, and carried away in the cisterns of the constellation Aquarius. /* not really */

Such a question, Sara! The Flood was a supernatural event. Why insist on natural explanations for a supernatural event? Many creationists can suggest possible natural explanations, but I sometimes wonder why they feel that they have to go to all that trouble. It was a miracle.

Hmmm... If the amount of water on earth is constant and the whole earth was flooded then I have no idea. And water that evaporates is transformed to clouds and then it becomes rain again and then... there would still be too much water on earth...

Nice question, I haven't thought of that before.

Sara, your questions are just to make fun of.

The water came from rain.

The water was not disappearing, it remaind for 150days and dried gradually.

Well....the Bible tell us that there are some windows up on the firmament...with lots of water...so God can open them to rain on us. He just opened them wide....
Then after the required time....he opened the windows down by the horizon...the water drained back up. That's a fact that scientists are keeping to themselves these days. Oooo those evil scientists.

It appears that the water on earth acted much the same way water acted on Mars, and probably for many of he same reasons.

Well as you see gay-pride is using biblical property as GOD always shows us a rinbow to show his promise that he will never flood his beloved Earth again, but that water could evaporate, GOD can do anything!

Katrina brought the waters in from the Gulf and then they receeded back from whence they came.

Or are you thinking of the fictional flood?
