Rum is much like any other alcohol. If you only drink a little, it is harmless, and may have some health benefits, such as better circulation, a healthier heart, etc.

By "only drink a little," I mean one or two servings a day.

However, like all alcohol, if you drink a lot, it can be a problem. The only way for the body to get rid of alcohol is to process it through the liver. The liver can only process so much at a time before it starts to get scarred, and can eventually fail. Liver failure means that you have to get your blood pumped through a machine on a regular basis to get all the crap out of it. That sucks.

Drinking a lot can also lead to vitamin deficiency, especially, a deficiency in niacin, which is used to keep the brain from turning into mush.

Drinking a lot really isn't drinkin much though. Three or more drinks every day can do it, according to some, and drinking more than four in any one sitting lets you qualify to be an alcohol abuser. (I suspect these numbers are a little on the low side...)

Rum is a pretty potent liquor, so just a few sips will get you over the limit.

Extensive use of rum of course has it's own pros and cons. You'll be really good at saying "ARRR," and you'll find a way to get fifteen men to stand on a corpse, and you get a free parrot and such... Of course, you'll also have to learn to dodge cannonballs, and cutlasses, and it will eventually cause you to break out in tattoos, and loose a hand, or a leg, or an eye...

You'll also spend a lot of time wondering why the rum is always empty.

rum is very warm.. even if somebody claims to believe rum is good on daily basis comsumption its must be a drink or two not more.. heard of wine being good for the body provided restricted to one drink.. have loads of water the next day if you consume loads of rum.. not advised on everyday basis.. looks like there is some confusion.. its wine not rum that is good..

The current medical consensus is one drink(one ounce for hard liquor like rum) per day for women, two for men is OK and may be beneficial.
