A human being must beleive in:
1. One God of all human beings
2. His Prophet's
3. His Books
4. His Angels
5. Divine Decree
6. Day of Judgement
AND
must do good deeds:
1. Declare that there is one God and Muhammed (p) is His last Messenger
2. Pray five times a day at appointed hours
3. Pay Zakat (charity) to the poor
4. Fast in the month of Ramadan
5. If he can, go for Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah)
and must have patience
and must do good deeds and abstain from evil. The Qur'an is a book of do's and don'ts and you'll get your list of good and evil in there. Generally, no crime against other: murder, rape, robbery, lying, etc, no crimes against yourself: drinking, pre-marial sex, doing drugs, disobeying parents etc.
Hope this helps.

Just because you are a Muslim, it will not guarantee you anything after you die. You will be judged on your deeds in this world. It's like a balance. If your good deeds out-weigh your bad ones, you will go to Heaven.
As a matter of fact, this applies to everyone. The belief in One God is a prerequisite though...
Islam contains the guidance to reach your goal...prayer, charity, fasting, belief in one God, and pilgrimage are the basic pillars of faith...

The most important thing, the main idea around which all Islamic deeds are based, is having a firm beleif in the complete oneness and perfection of God, and that He sent Mohammed (s) as his messenger. From their, daily prayer, charity, good works, fasting, pilgramage, and even just generally being nice to your fellow human being are all part of what the Qur'an describes as the inhabitants of heaven.

pray five times a day, fast in the month of Ramadan, give Zakat (2.5% of ur savings in charity etc), go for Haj (if u can afford)
: u shud not do things that God has prohibited
for eg
donot drink alcohol
donot eat pork.. any animal that was already dead... any animal on whom Allah's name has NOT been taken... blood etc
sex out of marriage in NOT allowed
Interest (gain/loss.. lease etc) in NOT allowed
always do JUSTICE wether the subject is ur relative.. muslim/non muslim.. poor/rich

DONOT LIE... this is one of the gravest sins in Islam...
according to a saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) : that if Allah WISHES to He'll forgive all the sins EXCEPT that of SHIRK (to prescribe partners to God)!!!!!
