Some say they'll go directly to heaven when they die, others believe in Purgutory. Yet, in the bible, it says that judgement day is when the rightous will enter Heaven.
Some believe we're nothing until that day, and others believe that's where ghosts come from - wandering until it's time. Still others believe ghosts are really demons, evil spirits ,etc.
Not passing on one belief, rather wondering the concensus?

as you mention there is no consensus. most of what you mention can be argued one way or another except, purgatory. There at the end of Jn the beginning of Acts, Jesus desends then ascends. He went to purgatory and preached His message and took those who agreed with him, and so the place was emptied. It was like a holding cell at the cop shop. they were charged or set free and then it was empty. The only ones who preach it anymore are those who profit from it.
What I believe is a person in search of the truth has to maintain a large I DON'T KNOW FILE DRAWER and review it from time to time and see if an issue can be settled. To my knowledge no one I respect has made any progress in this area past what you mention and what I added.

First off, I would like to say that you must be a very intelligent person....only extraordinary people ponder such topics...Many people have no time or interest in such urgent questions on life...such as you are asking...What happens to me after this body dies ??? THIS IS SUCH AN URGENT QUESTION But only lucky people like you can ask this !!! When someone dies, say my father,at the funeral, the body is lying there.. some one may say ...your father' s not gone he's lying here !! But no, the body is here, but my father is GONE .This means that we are not these bodies, we are the soul activating these bodies,,,we are not black, white, American, Indian,Spanish,Muslim Christian, etc, We are eternal souls, parts of God !! Is God Christian ? Is God Muslim ? Our duty in life is to seek Him out ,reestablish our lost love Him, and finally go to Him !!!
There is an amazing explaination about after life in the book called Bhagavad-gita As It Is by A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.You are very intelligent. You will be able to understand it easily. As we act in this life, so we will get our next life...This is why some people are born poor, some born rich...some blind, some beautiful, some not, If God is all just then why would this happen ? He is all just therefore we get a birth according to our past sinful or pious activities. Then finally when the soul develops his love for God , then he has no more sin and then goes back to God.Please do yourself a big favor ...get this book at your nearest ISKCON Center and read it ! You will be soo happy you did !!! This is the book that has been changing my life for ths past 35 years !!!... i read it daily and is is the nectar of life to me !!!....GIVE IT A TRY (:

Personally, I'm just tryin to be good no matter what religion is right. All the denominations have one thing in common being good and righteous, that's my path.
I'm covered and lovin it.
Worry bout loving and living, not the afterlife.
BTW i have had several encounters with ghosts

if we get technical
what i believe is what i have read in the bible
and it says there will be a judgement day and all will stand in judgement before God'
so i guess i believe that when we die, not only does our mind and body shut down and quit, i also believe our souls, or spirits do the same
and all are in limbo until judgement day

Well this is what i beleive!!!! I really think that we go to heaven for a little while....just to reflect on what life lessons we still need to learn. then i think we are reborn into anouther life. these are some of the reasons that i beleive in past lives........have you ever met sombody for the first time and you feel like youve known that person forever??? or seen a place on tv or something and you feel like youve been there or you have a really bad desire to go ther....almost like your homesick???
I have and thats what makes me think that past lives are real.

I don't believe in the whole afterlife thing. I believe that everyone on earth has a purpose and if they fulfill that purpose, they're reincarnated with a new purpose. However, if they don't fulfill their purpose, they're doomed to repeat the same life until they do.

Think about it - those that die apart from the elderly, those in fatal accidents, those blown-up, crushed, mangled, dismembered, deceased, deformed, are they suddenly whole again? What about premature deaths of babies, aborted foetuses, are they suddenly perfect bodies entering through the Pearly Gates?

I believe we enter a realm of peace and love. When we get to the other side we will gain an understanding of all the pain, lessons, and experiences that we had on planet earth which was about pushing our soul to authentic power. No one will be your enemy, everyone will hangout and talk about the their journey to earth. No doom and gloomers.

according to islam.. when we die.. the angels take out our souls.. we remain in the graves till the Judgment day... n during that time.. the evil-doers will have punishment in the grave....n the righteous will be in peace!
on the day of Judgment.. the righteous will enter heaven.. n the evil-doers will enter hell...n there will be some that'll be in the middle.... but after sometime.. they will also enter heaven!!!!

What happens to your computer when Internet connection is switched off; you cannot communicate with other computers .Similarly when life leaves communication of person and with person is stopped but world moves on .
