I'm not a doctor, so please don't take what I say for anything besides layman's advice. That said, here's what I suggest.

My husband tends to have problems with both snoring and sleep apnea. What I've found helps him is sleeping on his side. I've read that somewhere, as well. If you find it hard to keep yourself sleeping on your side, it has been suggested that you can use a rubber band and a tennis ball and a t-shirt to fix the problem.

Take the t-shirt, and place the tennis ball on the inside of the back of the shirt. Then, secure it in place with the rubber band. Ideally, the tennis ball should be in about the middle of your upper back when you put on the shirt. Such placement would make it uncomfortable to sleep on your back, forcing you to sleep on your sides. Ideally, it should eventually "train" you to sleep on your side, so you wouldn't always have to wear the tennis-ball-shirt to bed.

The only other factor that I've heard can help sleep apnea is to loose weight. That is a factor that is individual to each person, and may or may not apply to you.

Hope that helps!

You may want to talk to you're Physician about it. How long are you're periods of apnea ? You may want to have a sleep study done to find out. In most cases a machine called a CPAP is administered which creates a continues air flow, which keeps the airway open and helps illuminates the obstruction !

Perhaps it is your weight that causes both the sleep apnea AND the hypertension.

I don't know your weight situation, but as a medical professional, I have rarely seen cases of sleep apnea in people of ideal weight.

At any rate, most people lose weight, use a machine at night that forces them to breathe, or even undergo surgery to correct the situation.

Whatever you do, try to get off the meds.
You are too young to start down that path.
It only gets worse.
