I sometimes drink alcohol, and occationally gamble but not alot.
I like to celebrate Christian and non Christian holidays.
I don't want to see political pamphlets or propeganda at church.
Not Methodist as Bush belongs to that church and it supports people who start wars.
I have 2 small boys (no Catholic Church)
I was a Lutheran but they are too reserved, and to much into old traditions which I don't care for and I did not feel the spirt there. Spirt there.
Any suggestions?

We do not need a religion. That is made by man to try to reach God and it never works. What we need is a relationship with God and that always works as it is GOD reaching down to man and accepting us just as we are.
Check the link below and if you want help, join the group in the 2nd link. Although we focus on abuse, we do try to point to the need to having a close relationship with God.
(it is open to everyone)

Yes, I have a suggestion. Instead of going to different churches, perhaps you would rather look at what different Churches believe. What is their dogma or theory? Figure out, from books written by a person of the faith you are reading about, what that church believes. You will be surprised. Then, if you believe the same or basically the same as any particular church, then find some churches and try them out. Pick one that suits you, because not all church of any given faith is the same as the next one of the same faith. It all depends of the people that attend them. The people make up the personality of the church.
I feel that it is important to "go" to church and develop support for daily living. It is necessary to participate in the service instead of just sitting there and day dream about other stuff. Then do all or some of the extra stuff that makes up the church life. You will enjoy it and get to know the other people. Then give of yourself. Help when you can and who you can. Find an old person that needs a ride for worship service and take them. Or a disabled person. We all need help, even you and me. God bless you.

You should try the Bible. Not a religion. Not a denomination. Just the Bible. I have been on this program for several years and can say, without a doubt, it has been the most spiritually satisfying of anything I've ever tried. (I have done my fair share of dabbling in other religions) Finding a group with which to worship has been the hardest part. For me personally, "Church" doctrine seems to always get in the way. I have yet to understand why these groups don't use God's Word as the FINAL measuring stick. If it measures up, great. If not, scrap it. It's that simple. I will not let anyone put any unnecessary restraints on my life or worship. I will usually correct them with God's Word. If they don't admit the error when it's right in front of them, I try to bear witness to God's love by setting a peaceful, loving example.(something the mainstream church seems to be in lack of) But indeed, finding an ever supportive home church is something I have yet to accomplish.
However, my boyfriend's beliefs are a mixture of NeoPaganism or Buddhism. He is equally at peace with himself and his faith and is a quite compassionate and productive human being. Pagans, for the most part, practice their religion in solitude. Some form covens. He has done both and prefers to practice alone.
Best of luck to you in whatever you choose. Always be sure you have a very good understanding of your religion. Be knowlegable in order to give an account to others of what you believe and why.

I have no suggestions....however....I do find you interestingly almost exactly the same as me. Except my Avatar is a girl and yours is a boy.
I've had a few churches make offers that I had to refuse. I have experience with Lutherans, and have a few wonderful children. I celebrate any holiday that gives me a reason to drink alcohol.
As for the spirit....I see it in everyone, everywhere I go. I love the human spirit, and I'm convinced it's healthy and alive outside of a church as well as within the church.
Texas Hold em?? :)

I was born Christian (Catholic) and I was terrified of the mystery of mass (before it was in Latin) and the church represented scary things...martyrs...crucifixes...even blood red votive cups...it scared me. My family and I moved to Hong Kong and after a time, both natural parents passed away and I was adopted by a Chinese family. My Chinese dad never made me go to temple, but I wanted too...It was so calm...so different but it made me happy. I admit I am not a good Buddhist but I feel comfortable in my faith. I am not one of the shaven-head, robe-wearing nut cases at the airport giving out flowers...I am a responsible person and a physician, but in Buddhism, worship is in the heart, not in a pagoda. I am not suggesting this as a choice, but only as an option. If you would like, I shall share my humble knowledge with you.

what do you have against methodists? The methodist church doesn't support war. the methodist church is areally good church, and just because bush belongs to it doesn't mean anyhting is wrong with it. Hilary clinton is a methodist.
In case you haven't noticed, i am a methodist and you kind of ticked me off.

visit a few Bible chuches and see if the people and practices are to your liking. Non denomination same same. Ohters often are a denomination because they had a problem to begin with. Epicapal has a good doctrine but you thought Lutheran was dry so thats all i got.

As long as you drink in moderation Satanism will take you. They have no qualms with whatever Holiday you celebrate as long as you're not delusional about what the Holiday really means to you. They don't tollerate commercialization of their faith. Levay Satansim would endorse the war in Iraq, just not the inheirent deception that it's a defensive war or a humanitarian effort, however, it doesn't require you to support it. Satanism has many fruitful lessons for young men, I only wish I had found it earlier in life. Levay Satanism is very progressive and individualized, it can be as spiritual or reserved as your church likes.
