People have believed Jesus was coming back in their lifetimes since the first century, so this is nothing new, despite the Bible saying that no one will know the time.

Not trying to offend anyone, but it seems to me that the American government is using Christianity to justify whatever they are doing at the time. I see nothing in the Bible about killing people in other countries because you don't agree with their oil*ahem*I mean belief systems. It says, "Make disciples of all nations," not "Kill all nations that won't export their oil to you and then blame it on a fight for democracy in the name of Christianity."

BTW, John B mentioned that they would just wait to prove it to people that they are wrong. If Jesus doesn't come back during someones lifetime, they'll be dead. Therefore waiting won't prove anything to them, unless of course, there is indeed an afterlife.

I believe the second coming of Christ won't happen until AFTER the Great Tribulation (post-tribulation, pre-wrath of God), but since Christians would be slaughtered during the Tribulation, I'd say these Christians in the U.S. are presumptuous to assume they'll still be in this world at that point. Of course, the "Left Behind" books have, IMO, fed into this pop theology that is on shaky ground. An even bigger problem is that you've got Christians trying to force a political situation in Israel to happen before God is ready to make it happen--nobody can force God to do ANYTHING if He doesn't want to.

What should Christians do? Stop listening to themselves preach to each other about what they hope happens, and instead start listening to God.

People have been claiming Jesus return in their lifetime now for 2000 years. He hasn't returned yet and I doubt he will in our lifetime either.

I personally like to get them to commit to a specific date and when it does not happen I like to watch them try and wiggle out of it.

I was a Jehovah's witness back in 1975 and they claimed the world would end sometime between September1,1975 and December 31,1975 and I sweated it until Janurary 1 1976 come and I haven't sweated it since. They claime that we would never see 1976 and here it is 2006.

I like to point all these things out to them. The sect that David Koresh took over back in the 1950's(while Dabvid Koresh was still a child) they all quit their jobs and went to that place where David koresh died and waited for the return of Jesus. they finally gave up and went home. Then David grew up and took over and the rest is history.

We can hope they don't blow us all up. That's about all we can do.

Crazy, isn't it? Maybe we should all read Wilhelm Reich's "Mass Psychology of Fascism."
