For the anti-Americans: Why not just be proactive and GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS COUNTRY RIGHT NOW?! That way you'll already be Canadian citizens by the time the draft comes and those who realize where this country would be if we tried to solve all our our problems by running away from them and accept the call to duty will be able to go, fight, come back, and not be looked down on just for doing what needs to be done.

As for MC's comment, I went to a recruiter's office in high school and was told that because I am on medication for A.D.D. I would not be able to join. Otherwise I would have signed up right then and there without hesitation.

it would not be 'wussing out' as you so intelligently put it. its stupid. wars are stupid. why should WE go and fight while those that actually support this war, are sitting at home, next to cozy fires, drinking goddamn tea?! i am definitely on tim o'brien's side on this. wars are illogical and a waste of time and money.

If the draft is reinstated, going to Canada to avoid service wont be an option, its unlikely that Canada will accept draft resisters this time especially with increases border security. Recently Canada refused to accept deserters from the US Army. There is a lot of misconceptions about the draft, for example, the female who claimed the 'marines' 'drafted' a relative. thats nonsense, since neither the marines or the army drafts anyone, its done through the selective service system. Another misconception is the number of draft resisters. There arent very many, even during vietnam there were about 40,000 men in a 10 yr period who openly resisted the draft, this was more than offset by the 45,000 canadians who served in the us army during vietnam era. If you want to escape military service, there are far easier ways than running away. And if you do, would it be worth it to e a fugitive from the feds? no. Generally Americans have cooperated with national service, and I think it was tragic for the US when Nixon switched to volunteer army. BTW Id get off that ADD drugs if i were you and join up

Well, I'm currently in the inactive reserves so I have no choice. I spent 6 years in the Navy and have seen some unnerving things. If I was not already committed to going back against my will and could flee, I would.
This administration and it's policies are ridiculous and have no place in a civilized world. Ask any Iraqis if they had anything against Americans a few years ago and the numbers would be a lot less than they are now.
They all hate us and can't wait for us to leave. They've seen way too many of their family members die at our hands.
I realize that if we leave the country might succumb to chaos but we still need to get the hell out.

I'm currently in a ROTC program, so I can't be enlisted for about 4 more years, but even if there isn't a draft, well I'm still going to be enlisted.
I personally don't believe a draft will happen again, but hell, who knows?
I think what everyone fails to realize is that not everyone when drafted becomes infantry.
I believe for every person holding a gun, there are about 10 other people, meaning someone like cook, doctor, paper pushers, etc.

You attack people for saying they wouldn't obey a draft, but sit there being a chickenhawk instead of signing up yourself voluntarily.
Ooooh, you're such a hero.
Additional:
I see the chickenhawk is making excuses for not joining. "ADD" my foot. Even if you had it, they US military is so desperate that they will take drug users, criminals and high school dropouts. There is talk of ending the "no gays" policy to permit gays who are stupid enough to sign up. If you don't believe that, remember that the maximum age for elistment is now _38_ years old and people into their 50s and 60s are getting "call up" letters to resume service. How desperate is that? Oh, and let's not forget they're loosening the rules for foreigners to join and obtain US citizenship through military service....
It's only a matter of time before amputees are approved; some idiots who had lost legs in Iraq and Afghanistan are trying to re-enlist with prosthetics. It's World War I ("A1 status" for disabled soldiers) all over again.

I will actively oppose any draft, which is a violation of the 13th Amendment of the United States Constitution.
I would neither flee nor go to a concentration camp. Such tyranny is why the 2nd Amendment was written.

Hope I'd have the balls to do the right thing. Stay in the States and go to jail (legallly fighting). If the situation was a morally correct one I'd fight, but for the Iraq war its wrong. Then again theres a lot of hot Canadians.

I owe, I owe, so off to war I go! I owe my freedom to those who went before me and feel I could do no less. As a vet I can also say we earned your right to speak out against the war, and I have no problem with you dissenting, protesting, writing articles, but for me if you leave this country to avoid the draft. DO NOT come back. You are not welcome or deserving
QUOTATION: Our country! In her intercourse with foreign nations, may she always be in the right; but our country, right or wrong. Know your history?

We are all responsible for our common defense. If you don't believe this, why weight for a draft, flee now. Those of us left standing will be safer without you.

If I lived in the US (I'm a canadian citizen) : I would be happy to fight for a just war to protect my country and it's people... as for the war in Irak, I would not fight, because their is no honor in attacking and fighting for a war that is based on nothing but a pompous leaders quest for more power and lies made up by that same leader to avenge his fathers honor (which is basicly what Bush is doing by going after Sadaam Husseim)... I mean, what is this, a Shakespeare play!
