Where can we find the basis for the authority so many claim to have when judging others?

2006-09-29 19:13:42 · 15 answers · asked by Left the building 7 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

Given the fact I have over 7,000 answers and over 100 questions, my opinions are well documented.

But, what does that have to do with the question asked?

I do not recall claiming the authority to speak for an imaginary God... (judge others)

"Biblical fact" is an oxymoron.

The only fact that can be stated about the bible is that it appears to be a book of mythology since none of the bible stories have ever been confirmed by credible evidence.

Including the Jesus myths.

On the contrary, the Bible does not authorize anyone to condemn others. The Bible only authorizes Christians to offer their message (the "gospel") and if it is rejected, to carry themselves away.

The Bible does not authorize anyone to judge anyone else or to condemn anyone except himself.

Given the fact this is in the R & S section, I assumed it would be obvious I am inquiring about religious based authority.

There are many times of authority we use to judge (evaluate) others but are irrelevant to this question.

Kerilynn, I don't care who you listen to. But, I make no claim that ignoring me or "rejecting my message" will have any affect on your life.

Some people claim that eternal punishment or reward relies solely on listening to their message.

For example, read that long winded diatribe that so clearly demonstrates my point. His "authority" appears to be "my interpretation of the bible," or, in other words, "because I said so."

I worship money more than anything else, same as everyone else. The difference is I don't lie about it.

Near as I can tell, they pull it from their own false sense of superiority. As in: "I believe in such-and-so, therefore I am better than you and know better. My God can beat up your God."

I have certainly never found anything like it in the Holy Bible. As far as that goes, I've found scripture that tells us "Judge not, lest ye yourself be judged". I've found scripture that tells us "Vengeance is Mine, sayeth the Lord". I've found scripture that teaches us to forgive seventy times seven times. I've found scripture that tells us that if somebody doesn't choose to listen to what we have to share with them regarding Christ, we should walk away and shake the dust of their doorstep from our feet. But I have yet to find anything that says it is up to me or any other human being to decide who is worthy and who is not.

Just my two cents.

In my opinion, there is no basis for judging anyone, unless you are appointed by the system to do so. Even then, it really doesn't matter until "Judgment Day". Then we will all be equal as far as having the chance to justify the things we have done, during this life. If a person can look themselves in the mirror each day and feel alright, they are most likely not spending time checking to see if other people have streak free images.....

I don't know about other religions, but Christians aren't supposed to judge other people. On here I've seen so many people say, "You're going to hell," and so forth, and that's totally out of line. The only basis people find to judge others is false.

I have seen some of your responses to questions and you should ask yourself that question before asking others....

Look at God's answer below, where does he get the authority to judge others? Can you answer that sir?

You see yourself as an authority so you judge others because you worship yourself.

I have no right to Damn thee to hell and eternal fire.

I have it in my authority to rebuke you in the name of our lord Jesus Christ:

2 Timothy 4:1-8 (King James Version)

1I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

5But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

6For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

7I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

8Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

How do you have knoweledge when you are willingly ignorant?

Why do you say you are wise when you are foolish?

Why do you say you have faith when you are dead?

Is it to much to ask for a man of the poor to be feed in the name of our Lord?

Should turn your back on morality and take on lust and evil?

You are but a dead man waiting for he place in the lake of fire.

I now say to you, come to the Lord Jesus Christ, and recieve life everlasting, that you may stay from catching your foot upon the ground and that you will not burn.

I can't claim that I don't judge. I base my authority on 52 years of experience and a good education.

There is none..although they'll claim it's on God's authority. Religion is little more than an obsession with power...an all powerful deity who's on their side. They don't want truth. They want dominion and power for themselves.

This is the problem I've had all my life with well-meaning Christians. They aren't content with teaching and showing the way, they have to point out your sins and tell you that you will be going to hell. Personally, I think they are mimicking their pastors who do that to them.
