Surely he likes you, and at the very least he's a friendly guy. What are you waiting for, ask him out! Get his phone number and arrange to meet somewhere after school or something! As nice as he is, I am sure he will be easy to approach. And he probably will be gentle if he does not want to take you up on your offer. Good luck!
