From your other ?s I'm guessing you are in the LA area... There ae several flocks of ringneck parakeets and cockatiels in the area. They may be attracted to the fruits that the trees near your school produce. This time of year a lot of tree fruits are very ripe, ranging from palm nuts, to pears. Parrots are very habitual, and will visit the same grove of trees at the same time of each year.

I'm not sure where you live but I live in So Cal and we have many flocks of parrots that live here. They are parrots that were former pets that have escaped from owners and have become "native" flocks. Ten or twelve years ago a newspaper, either LA times or the OC register had a giant article that showed all the different flocks that now inhabit the SoCal area. It was really interesting and if you keep an eye out you can spot them. You can definitely hear them from time to time but I am not a bird watcher. I like to watch them when I hear them at a red light or walking but other than that i don't pay much attention. A true birdwatcher would have much more info on the situation. I enjoy them. They are much better to look at than the pigeons or seagulls that are in the area.

Of course seeing a flock of pelicans is much more intriguing. They are so much bigger and almost prehistoric. They are so big. Thank god regulations against killing them started in the 80's.

there are several species of parrots in the L.A. area. Also populations in Texas and Florida as well...all escaped pets. Do you live in one of these areas? These parrots do not migrate..here all year long.
