Literal. It happened, but it was also symbolic of taking on the sins of the world.

Although this medical condition is relatively rare, according to Dr. Frederick Zugibe (Chief Medical Examiner of Rockland County, New York) it is well-known, and there have been many cases of it. The clinical term is "hematohidrosis." "Around the sweat glands, there are multiple blood vessels in a net-like form." Under the pressure of great stress the vessels constrict. Then as the anxiety passes "the blood vessels dilate to the point of rupture. The blood goes into the sweat glands." As the sweat glands are producing a lot of sweat, it pushes the blood to the surface - coming out as droplets of blood mixed with sweat.

There's a very good possibility that an eclipse of the moon occured on that evening. A blood red moon is common at those times.
Someone who was in agony, and sweating profusely would certainly reflect the red light of the eclipsed moon, and the beads of sweat could easily resemble drops of blood ... especially in the absence of any other light source.
There are records of Passover season lunar eclipses around the beginning of the first century, so this scenario is entirely possible.

I definitely think it was literal. It's a medical condition called Hematidrosis. It's the effusion of blood in ones perspiration. It can be caused by extreme anguish or physical strain. Subcutaneous capillaries dilate and burst, mingling blood with sweat. Anyone who thinks that Christ did not suffer because he was God just doesn't understand the nature of Christ. He was God but he was also human. He suufered unbearable pain to pay for your sins and mine.

Literal. And I believe that even if there was no medical condition about sweating drops of blood that it would still be literal, because Jesus... Well, He's Jesus!

Both.
Literal because doctor said when a person is so stress his blood vessels can break.
Symbolic because God told Adam when he sin that 'in the sweat of your face you shall eat bead'. That is when man had to labour for our needs. Jesus redeemed us even from this with His blood when it was mixed with His sweat. So when we placed our trust in Jesus, we do not have to stress to get our daily need but just to depand on Him.

I think if you check with a good Medical Doctor he would tell you that this can and does happen in extreme anguish!

It probably was litteral. There is a rare medical condition where people really do sweat blood, ussually under extremely stressful situations, and you could imagine that He was definatly in one at the time.
