Honestly, it really depends on the individual. If you have hair that is in good condition, a nice colour, then long hair can look very attractive. When I say long, not hip length hair, but shoulder to chest length. I don't think very short hair really suits that many women of any age and contrary to what people say here, I don't think it makes a woman look younger, quite the opposite. I think probably chin length to shoulder length with lots of layers would probably look best, but short cropped hair is a big no no, unless you have a really striking face, it will just do you no favours. This is because as women age, their faces tend to be slightly more masculine and short hair just emphasizes this. Also very short hair makes any imperfections, such as wrinkles more evident. Lots of choppy layers, a good length and flattering colour that is not too dark, would probably soften up the face and look very soft and feminine. Good luck : )

Well, I'm 43 and still dying my hair. Got quite a bit of grey when it's my normal color. My hair is longer now than it has been since I was about 17, and if I didn't dye it....no way would I keep it long. Too much grey and long hair don't mix. I've always pondered what I will do with my hair in my 50's +. And I usually come up with a short version in my imagination.
So I'd say short is my vote.
Good luck with whatever you choose, if in fact that's the case for this question.
Peace ! !

I believe older women look better with shorter hair. Not the tight perms or one inch long, but a few inches to shoulder length looks good if styled or put up . . . depends on their hair, their lifestyle, etc. For women who do not cut their hair for religious reasons -- they have found ways to style it so they look mature.
Older women do not look good trying to wear their hair like they are 20 years old.

It is much better to go shorter and lighter as you get older. Long dark hair is the kind of hair the witches and old hags in movies have. Long hair also enhances wrinkles, which we all get, but really don't want to show off!
