Yes sometimes took a long time for myself

I don't have experience like that with my arm, but I damaged nerves in my face when I fell and broke my jaw nearly 10 years ago. For a long time, a section of my face between my lip and chin was completely numb. After 3-4 years, I had regained some sensation in it, but it has never regained all feeling in it, and my smile is still somewhat lopsided because of it.

I also had a hysterectomy nearly 20 years ago that involved a "bikini cut" from hipbone to hipbone. My gut directly over the incision has still never regained all the feeling from all the nerves they cut, and I don't think it ever will at this point.

AND, I too had the test with needles and electricity (can't remember what they called it either) when I was having a problem with numbness in my hand. They determined that I didn't have permanent damage at that point, but that the nerves were being constricted by swelling from arthritis in my elbow. They wanted to do surgery to reroute my nerves, but the test (PURE HELL) and the doctor really freaked me out. Besides, after all that electricity they shot through my arm, I had the feeling back in my hand again the next day. Fortunately it hasn't gotten that bad again, and I know the cause so I can try to protect myself from it somewhat.

In my case my nerve damage is from herniated discs in the cervical area of the spine pinching the nerve. I had a whatever the name of that test is called where they stick a needle deep into your arm tissue and then put electricity though it to check the extent of the damage. My nerve damage is permanent. It runs down my arm and into my thumb and forefinger. A couple of weeks ago I had begun to feel like a pressure type sensation in my thumb kind of under the nail, but it only lasted for like 3 days on and off. Now it's back to the same painfully numb state it has been in for so long already.

I wish you the best of luck in your recovery! :-)
