Your owners manual will tell you what gasoline to use. This vehicle probably takes 87. Engines are designed and engineered to use a specific gas. Both will work, but one is best. If your car is designed to use 87, this will give you the best performance.

Octane is a measurement to reduce knocking or pinging, it is not a HP or a performance thing. The higher octane gas takes more pressure or heat to ignite. So if your car is old and engine has pre-ignition problems, (does not have a anti-knock sensor), or is a high performance model with higher than normal compression numbers which will cause preignition (which Corolla S is not) then higher octane gas is / can be better. Otherwise, you are wasting your money and oil resources. Check your manual or see service advisor.

Of course higher octane will give you better performance, however it is unnecessary to use 91 for a Corolla. I wish I had a car that does 30+ mpg now.

You only need 87. If you use 91 you wont get any better performance or gas milage. Thus it would be a waste of money

bliden is an idiot. do not believe him. he must work for some petroleum cartel. that car only needs 87 octane. anything else is just frittering (is that really a word?) your money away. it probably would run on Ethanol without deleterious effects but I wouldn't do it every day. Happy Motoring!
And it is NOT a crappy car. Don't belive what you hear. I have been driving a Toyota Camry now for 15 years and it is virtually maintenance-free. Change the oil and wax the finish. These words from our fathers ring true for us penurious Scots.

it will run fine on 87, don't waste your money on 91. The ecu is programed for the lower blend, it may run better on 91 but it's not needed. The benefits won't out weight the cost difference.

91 is not required on this model but will give a little more power which not worth the extra money you pay for gas.

Always use the highest octane possible, it will give you good gas mileage and your Corolla will break down less. My life experience...
