Psychologists says that the top 2 things that make people happy are family and spirituality. and I am usually MUCH happier when i am drunk ;-) so I guess that I dont agree.

Depends on your goal in life, I guess. For Shaw it was his version of "truth". So his point is he would rather hold to his understanding of truth and be unhappy, than "believe" in something just to be happy.

The real question is why is the believer happier? If it is just ignorance is bliss, then Shaw's quote is on the money. I think that sometimes that may be true, but much of the time, it isn't.

Not true, i am a believer and I am happy because I know that when I die I will go to a beutifull place with no sorow. A sceptic that never believes will go to hell, a deep dark pit that will burn and torture it's inhabitants relentlsly for eternity. The same with Drunkenness, a drunk is only happy for a short time, untill the effects cause him to do things he should not and would never do if he were sober.

That doesn't wash .That could go either way,it's not an absolute.
There are Christians who constantly worry about their salvation and others who rest in the finished work of Christ.
There are skeptics who because they don't believe are happy to do as they please because when it's over ...it's just a big dirt nap.
and there are depressed to the point of suicide drunks and tea-totalling nervous wrecks......so GBS is kind of full of BS

Sounds to me like Mr. Shaw is saying that it's pointless to say religious people are happier than non religious because both can be equally as happy in their own world. Same as a man who drinks. He can be happy he's drinking, the same as a man who doesn't drink can be happy. You can be happy with or with alcohol, the same as you can be happy with or without God. But God will get you to Heaven and Michelob will get you a headache. :)

I am a Christian. Just because a drunken person seems happy doesn't mean he is beside he's only seems happy because he has no control over himself but a sober man does have control.

I don't know but I know an awful lot of people who just get plain mean when they are drunk. A happy drunk is only drunk until he becomes sober. A believer is a believer for as long as the believer lives.

But in the morning, I'll still be a happier believer. Your drunk will simply be hung over.
