The term warlock is from the OE "waer logga" which means oath breaker, or traitor. Among Pagans it was one of the vilest insults imaginable, Christians started applying it to male witches when they adopted the term "witch" to refer to satanists. Many neo-Pagans have adopted Wicca and Wiccan in place of Witchcraft and Witch, to avoid being confused with practitioners of the Christian defined "Heresy of Witchcraft".
to Dustin Lochart: A Witch is a Witch whether they are in a coven or not, the term for what you describe is "Solitary". You might check out "A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham.

No a witch is a witch whether they are male or female. Warlock is a derogatory term. Though Satanists like to use the term they are not real witches as usual they take all good terms and use them backward.

Technically, the "oath" a warlock has broken is the covenant with the church -- not a nasty element for a non-Christian yet a great deal to those nonetheless interior the church. fairly it rather is asserting that the guy *used* to be Christian and now could be not. it is the story with fairly a great style of recent Pagans so i don't think of it rather is offensive in any respect. even nonetheless, Wicca has began making use of this be conscious to intend somebody who has broken oaths taken in a coven, which isn't at each and every of the classic which potential. yet rather the be conscious is in simple terms used as yet another descriptor of a magic-person, like witch or magician, and that they've been the two undesirable words as quickly as too. take a seem at a number of our different terminology to work out the version between what a identify potential to outsiders as against the practitioners themselves. Heathen and Pagan initially referenced the heaths and nation-state the place the "backwards" human beings lived. It became into like calling somebody a "hillbilly." Now they are titles taken on by potential of human beings honoring the relationship to custom and the land those comparable human beings had. i for my area sense that warlock is a extra valuable masculine term than witch. We take on the titles we sense strongly define the better persons. If a guy feels "witch" (or the different term) to be empowering for him, it is wonderful too.

No. The word warlock isn't so much about gender as it is about how one practices the craft. A person who practices alone and privately is a warlock. Those who practice with a coven are not.

I believe.........I may be wrong and get the pagans mad at me but.......I believe that a warlock is an excommunicated or evil witch.
I do know that it is not a name true pagans enjoy being called.
