Yep, he's mad. The question is, is he mad at one of you, or both of you? We once knew a female mini collie who was insanely jealous of a guy's wife (it was mutual), and the dog would retaliate by peeing on the wife's side of the bed if the wife yelled at her. Not all the time, just enough to let the wife know what Little Bit thought of her.

Never underestimate a dog's intelligence. If the poop's just on one side of the bed, one of you has offended him. If it's in the middle, both of you are in "big trouble." :-) with this dog.

However, we understand that this isn't your idea of cool, and a person might react in an adverse way. Bear in mind that the dog probably forgot what it did an hour after The Deed, so going crazy isn't going to help, and could trigger Another Incident.

You are the human, tho, and this is your house (I assume the dog is not paying the mortgage), so you have to do something about it. Has this only happened once, or is he getting carried away?

Please do not put him in a crate. Crates are NOT to be used as punishment. That's how they get a bad rep, and shelters like ours wind up with the true horror stories. Even if you catch him pooping, don't throw him in a crate, or he will hate the crate and then you'll have another problem.

If caught in the act, put him outside or if you don't have a yard, a "time-out" area. No screaming, yelling, or rubbing his nose in it. He's done it, he's a dog. Just a firm "NO!" and put him outside immediately. He sounds like a smart guy and he will catch on quick.

Maybe it mixed up the "rest room" with the "sleeping room" ?... Now seriously, it could mean any of a number of things...but most likely does NOT mean that the dog is upset or vengeful, that is really not realistic in animals, mostly just in people. Have understanding and compassion, but you also need to do a few things... re-train your dog toilet training, keep your bedroom door closed to the dog, (your bed is for people, not dogs), take your dog for walks more often or more routinely, maybe watch what it eats (if it ate something rotten or stale or rancid that caused it to have to poop out fast)... Its possible your dog got excited or too comfortable and lost control there, provide a friendly environment for it away from the bedroom, etc...I'll let you keep thinking of whatever good you can do to get results you want

It means that he has a reason to be behaving inappropriately. Perhaps you are not spending as much time with him as you did when he was a pup, or maybe you are not noticing when he is asking to go outside, maybe you are leaving him alone too long, or maybe you are not giving him enough excercise... all this can lead to behavioural problems with dogs. The remedy is to spend more time with your dog and pay more attention to his needs.. make sure he gets walked every day, play games with him everyday, maybe hire a dog walker if you are leaving him alone at home for long hours while you work. My friends dog started urinating on thier bed when one of them strated to go back to work, the dog would pee only on his(the man's) side of the bed... as soon as he started to pay more attention to the dog and spent more time with him the dog stopped peeing on the bed....

The lesson to be learned here is that if a dog wants attention because they are lacking it, they will try to get attention any way they can even if it is negative attention in the form of punishment.... to the dog it's still attention and they will keep acting out until they get the positive attention they really want from you... so I suggest you spend more time with your dog and play more, walk more and just pay more attention to the dog, it should stop him from acting out.

Your dog is upset with you. Has there been any changes in your household lately? Have he been left alone longer than usual, go on a trip lately, change in work schedule, family life, etc? Try to figure out what the cause was so you can correct it before it becomes a habit.

He is upset about something that has changed in his regular routine. They will do this and pee or start tearing up things as a sign of displeasure. Sometimes if there is a new baby or if you have gone back to work or the like. It may be something very meaningless to you but he is experiencing great anxiety over it

It means he shouldn't be sleeping in your bed. Sleeping with animals (other than a cat) is nasty. (No offense) I had a pee experience with the last dog that slept in the same bed as me and i rather not go through that again.

Did you get new bedspread or linens?(Strange smells ) Did you maybe forget to let him out this time? ( it can happen) Change of food? (Can throw digestive tract off.) Did you go somewhere for a time and leave him? ( ticked off )Those are a few reasons it might happen.
