For Halloween you could use dried Indian Corn with medium and small pumpkins. Also, you could use corn husks. Pumpkins spice candles and brown ones.

For Christmas, use Red and Green candles. Black Cherry is a good one. Also get a couple tall skinny white ones. Green pine garland and a string of lights. Then add some of your favorite holiday pictures to it!

Have fun... I wish I had a mantle.

For Christmas you could do a 12 Days of Christmas display that would be fun for the kids. Find 12 pictures of the kids, family, cats, dogs, etc. Get red and green card stock and fold each card in half. Glue a picture on the front of each card and cover each picture with a piece of paper (perhaps decorated by the kids - but don't let them see the photos!). Line up the cards across the mantle and each day the kids take turns removing the front piece of paper revealing the photograph underneath. I hope this makes sense. I did something like this when my kids were little and they loved it.

Greenery is always so beautiful on a mantle at Christmas time, especially if it is fresh. And candles, lots of them, add a nice warm touch.
