I live in the area where all the universities are. The students are loud and disrespectful of the area in which we live. (trash everywhere!) Who do I contact to make them stop? The Mayor's office? (No, I do not know who their landloard is)
Thanks!

Loud noises in the late hours can be reported to the police. You can find out the owner by looking up the tax records for the property, those are public record. If you have a real estate salesperson as a friend, they may be able to get the address. This is not a matter for the Mayor's office, but the police, the owner, and, if in violation of health and sanitation codes, the code enforcement department of your city. If you are not the only neighbor complaining, go together to make your case. Numbers speak loudly to public officials.

Be aware that the students, if they find out you have complained, may make your life more of a hell than it is now. If you rent, the best solution is to move to another area once your rent period is up and you have given proper notice. If you are a homeowner, a change in who rents the property in question may not change things. You may want to give thought to selling and moving elsewhere.

This truly is a constant problem in college towns throughout the US. There were some great suggestions here. First, if you can stand the noise for one more evening, wait until the next morning and speak to your neighbors face to face. Try doing it in a non-confrontational manner. Try to realize that most of these kids are on their own for the first time and know nothing about what it takes to be a good neighbor. You may be surprised if you approach them in a friendly manner what can be accomplished. However, if you are met with abuse, then you need to get tough and contact the police. Document violations and raise some hades with you local councilperson...elections are coming up and they will listen to you.

Being a nice neighbor.. I would FIRST talk to the person in charge and if that does not work.. notify the police of the problem and let them work it out
