Why would an 8 year old need a cell phone they should be with there parents at all times unless they are at school and then they can't have them. The only way that my 8 year old would have a phone would be if it was one of those Disney phones that can only call me and that had the thing on the computer where you could see where your child is at all times.

I think that is really up to the parents to decide. There are some 8 year olds that are very responsible and mature for their age. I for one have a 10 yr. old that I dont think would be responsible enough to take care of a cell phone yet. He is mostly with us anyway, and when he goes to friends homes which is not too often, I make sure I meet parents, I have their home #'s and cell #'s. If for some reason he would miss the bus from school to the house then he knows to go to the office and call me. There is always someone there until 4:00pm .
Peace.

I don't think it is ok. I knew someone who had a daughter with the cell at that age and she was randomly calling numbers and there was a man who was talking to her for a long time before anyone caught on to what she was doing. I think a family cell phone to be used when they go to a sleep over or do anything where they might need to get a hold of you is a good idea. But not for everyday use.

That depends on what the phone is used for, Disney has come out with cellphones that allow the parents what calls can be made and when they can be made. Although I see no real reason an 8 year old should have a cellphone since they are in school most of the time and shouldn't be using them anyway.

To me it also seems ridicules but I know phone companies now have those little phones, but the parents can program in so many phone numbers and its pretty much for emergency use only. If you think about it how often is a 8 year old by themselves. In the commercial featuring this cell phone , they showed a child whos mother forgot to pick them up or parent checking in on the kid.

I don't think that you should give a eight years old a cell phone. you should wait till they turn 13 or 14 years old. eight years old is too young to be having a cell phone. Good Luck with that. once you give them a cell phone, they would be on the phone all day, they probably won't do there homework and other things that they post to be doing. Just let them use the house phone instead of them having a cell phone. good luck.

No. I don't think an 8 year old is responsible enough to have a cell phone.

If there is a legitimate reason for the "child" to have a phone then of course. But I can't think of any valid reason as to why an 8 to 13 year old deserves or needs a phone.

Absolutely not are you kidding? If my 8 year old had a cell phone she would have to get a job and that is just as ridiculous.

No. I think it's ridiculous that a parent would even think about getting an 8 year old child a cell phone. Where does you kid go that you don't know where s/he is? Give me a break!
