Technically, birds can eat almost any 'safe', healthy human foods.

They love and should be given small amounts of pasta, beans, vegetables of all sorts (NEVER give avacados, they are toxic to birds), fruits of all kinds (Go easy on/or skip citrus fruits), various grains, and things like whole wheat bread.

Healthy human foods are an important addition to a bird's diet. No bird should eat seed or pellets alone.

If you've never fed vegetables, don't be surprised if your budgie won't eat them. Put fresh food in the cage each day, and eventually the bird will almost always try it. Be sure everything is cut up small enough, and rinsed very, very well.

My birds eat a variety of dark leafy greens, veggies like green beans, corn, and carrots, fresh fruits like mangoes, apples and berries, and a whole bunch of other things. (That's like one days mix)

Most foods contain large amounts of one vitamin & mineral or another, so go easy on all of it and feed in moderation. Give various types of foods each day, and change the diet each time you shop so the birds have more variety.

Keep in mind to never give your bird ANY greasy, salty, sugar filled foods for any reason whatsoever. Never give anything contaning caffiene, chocolate, alcohol, or (As I said before) avocado. Also stay away from apple seeds, as they can be poisonous. (But apples are a good treat!)

You ran out of food 'for them'...so Im assuming you have more then one. Until you can get to the store for seed, you could give them small bits of bread, or unsalted crackers, or any fruits or veggies you have. Parakeets have fast metabolisms and cant go without food for very long, but if they are hungry they will eat the healthy things you offer them until you get some seed. But dont just think you can stop buying seeds if they eat other stuff! Continue feeding them seeds as well as vegetables and fruits if they like it, its good for them. My parakeet eats seeds, carrots, lettuce, apples, and sometimes Triscuit crackers.

You mean a parakeet? They eat bird seed, easily found in packages at any pet store. Mine used to eat small pieces of grapes & apples.

They like birdseed. Another thing they like is a birdseed beak sharpener. Ask at your pet store. Be sure the water is always clean.
