I just posted a question about drinking about 45 mins ago (Thanks for the replies everyone!) However, now i'm nervous? The previous question asked if drinking was really bad for health ect for an 18 yr old. Some people said its really not that bad untill you get out of control/drunk (which i dont plan on being) , however , some said my brain cells will be gone ! haha..umm. i guess im really just wondering if my brain will really lose cells? Will i become like brain dead or something? i dont drink that much. im a college student. i dont plan on getting trashed..i'll probably be drinking tomorrow night and the weekend after columbus day. Thanks for helping a girl out everyone!

Don't worry about the brain cell thing at your age. Just worry one night you might drink to much and end up pregnant

Hahaha ummmm....that's just people trying to freak you out. You're not going to become brain dead or completely messed up because you have a couple drinks. I'm 21 and probably drank a lot more than you during my first year in college (and a lot in high school - but SHHH dont tell anyone, haha). I'm a fully functioning regular girl, no problems because of drinking!
However, I'm not going to sit here and say underage drinking is great and you should do it all the time. Do it in moderation, and drink beer. If you take shots and drink heavily mixed drinks you'll get really drunk really fast.
Have fun and be safe sweety :)

Don't let people peer pressure you into drinking if you don't want to. Drinking can be fun if you are comfortable with the people that you are with but it is also "addictive". Just use your best judgement and decide whether or not you want to try it..If you do decide to, be around people you can trust and try not to make a habit of it...because it can ruin your life if you let it. I am an alkie and I've seen both sides. Discipline and self-control are virtues that you must posses if you have them now, drinking isn't going to affect you much, if you are they type of person that has an addictive personality or has a problem with losing control drinking is probably not for you. Just whatever you do, if you decide to get thrashed plan in advance and stay off the road. I have had friends die that way : (

Unless you are really frying brain cells the loss of brain cells will not seriously hurt your mental ability as the total number isn't directly related to intelligence. Most people out of their 20's lose brain cells everyday yet they don't become brain dead. (I don't have the statistics in front of me, but I would bet your parents will naturally lose more brain cells than you will during a night of drinking, especially since it takes effort to get alcohol to actually kill a brain cell.)
Heavy constant drinking can be damaging to the developing brain however a night of responsible drinking shouldn't have any impact on you beyond that night and the next morning.
If you really want to know about alcohol's effects I would suggest reading through the sourced link.

You're probably worrying too much. I think drinking is something that can perfectly fine in moderation. Binge drinking is obviously bad and you would definitely regret doing so. Don't let anyone pressure you to go beyond your limits. If you start to feel you're drinking too much, stop and don't feel ashamed for doing so. I just think you're worrying too much about this. It's really up to you whether or not you want to drink. As for your brain cells, I think they'll be okay so long as you don't develop a true drinking problem.

Yes you will loose some brain cells, but not enough to worry about if you drink in moderation. Just don't overdo. And its not like you'll wake up totally stupid in the morning after having a few drinks!!!!

It's a popullar myth that you have a finite number of brain cells. Your body still manufactures brains cells into your mid twenties. Being a former alcoholic - I don't condone binge drinking, but I still do drink from time to time. Don't worry about losing brain cells, worry about missing out on life. Do what makes you happy.

You only need to worry about your brain cell loss if you have a serious drinking problem. Social drinking at your age will not have dire consequences to your brain cells. More to worry about is being irresponsible when you drink (driving & drinking, drinking and unprotected sex, stuff like that).

Why are you drinking so much? The college days are the best days and so much to remember. What are you trying to forget?
