Maybe a bon fire? Some hotdogs and marshmellows?
I think hotdogs is something simple, easy to serve and easy to clean up. So I've gotta agree with the majority here. It's a childs party, hot dogs beats the heck out of jars of baby food.

My mom made this for my HighSchool Graduation and it was a big hit, not that expensive either.

She bought several packages of tortillas and Miracle Whip, a fully cooked ham, cheese and cucumbers. She sliced everything to about the size of McDonald's french fries and spread the M.W. on the tortillas and wrapped it all together. She sliced the sandwich wraps into finger-food sized bites. People loved them and loved being able to walk around and talk with them. Most people spent so much time talking and ate so slowly that she ended up having tons of leftovers.

Try doing just appetizers. Pigs in a blanket, a veggie tray, stuff like that. Or you can make a meat tray. Just put some deli meats and different kinds of sliced cheese. Lettuce , tomatoes, onion. Then set out condiments and loaves of bread. At my old job, I had to cook for a rotery club lunch of 50+ people evry week and I did this once a month and they loved it. Also set out chips and olives and stuff.

One make him his own little cake to make a mess with-so you can cut a real cake for your guests while he plays with his cake. The fruit and veggie trays with the dipping sauce are good. And the small sandwiches that are made of tuna salad, or hamsaled or egg salad.

Pizza always works wonders. We also like ziti because you can make it the day before and just heat it up when guests arrive. Also, cold cuts, tuna fish, egg salad, on mini bages or party bread does wonders. Think quick and easy.

we did lots of finger foods. PB&J "sushi" rolls. You can find the recipe at www.jif.com fresh fruit and veggies w/ ranch dip. We also did a baked mastacholi (sp?) The kids all loved that they got to eat with their hands for most of it.

Lots of finger food...very kid friendly, and easy for adults to eat as well.
Perhaps sandwiches, or subs, vegetables & dip, cheese etc.
We celebrated my daughter's 1st birthday in June, and went WAY overboard with a bbq.
Don't stress, keep it simple and enjoy the day!
Congrats!!
