WOW! 10 months can be a difficult age for some male dogs; it's kind of like the teen years, and if he's really big too... If you haven't taken him to regular obedience training, do it now. It will greatly improve your relationship with your dog. If you have, maybe a refresher course is in order. The instructor should have some good ideas about how to handle the oversized pup.
Meanwhile, some ideas. I guess he doesn't mind when you say "no." You could get an airhorn at a marine supply place, and use it along with the "no." It is loud enough to really startle the dog. You might also keep a short leash on the dog so you can grab it when necessary. After he does something crazy like that, or when he looks like he's going to, grab his leash and do some really cheerful obedience training. Heel! Good dog! Sit! Good dog! Down! Good dog! So that he gets the idea that obedience is GOOD and HAPPY. He's not getting any smaller, so get him under control or he'll end up banished to the back yard, poor thing.

LOL Sorry this isn't funny but it is what some owners call counter surfing. The only suggestion I can make is this. Keep a pinch collar on him and keep him on a leash. When he attempts to jump on the counter or stove to take things give a sharp, quick pull down on the collar and tell him NO in a stern voice. Keep repeating this until he learns that when he does that, he will immediately corrected. Don't give up and be consistant. If all else fails, crate him during these times. DO NOT HIT HIM. Be his pack leader and he will eventually learn. Watch the Dog Whisperer for some other hints on how to be the pack leader. Good Luck.

THE RIGHT ANSWER
Get about 6 mouse traps and an old deck of cards. Tape the cards to the square wire part (that snaps). You need to cut the cards short so that you can set the trap. The cars are to prevent the possibility of injury to your dog. You want to suprize the heck out of it, not hurt it - though a mouse trap won't even hurt your finger. When this is done, set the mouse traps along the edge of the counter. The dog will get the picture without your presense that the counter is not a good place for doggie paws.
Make sure they are MOUSE traps and not RAT traps. Rat traps are much bigger. A rat trap will break bones. A mouse trap unrestricted by poker cards will only sting a little. WIth poker cards, it just makes a very suprizing SLAP! and doesn't trap the dog's paw which is what you want.

How much are you feeding him? He may be hungry and just does not care if he gets burned. I love to use the water bottle. I say NAUGHTY really loud then squirt. Don't use their name when you say something is bad or wrong- their name should only bring reward and good things. =-)

Talk real mean while you give him love pats on his rump. That's a spanking. Then in normal voice talk to him and he will beg forgiveness, and give it, with petting. My pets have responded well to punishment swift and sure followed with forgiveness and love. your dog reads your expressions so angry he sees and understand, smiles mean approval. the more you work with your dog, the more attention they pay attentionto your expressions and all you have to do is frown and he is a repentant dog. good luck with your dog.
