You're right. I've seen groups of volunteers going in to help clean up with just gloves and garbage bags - this was a month ago - it's been over a year already. Why aren't the residence of that community doing anything themselves.

There have been so many terrible natural disasters going on all over the country this past year and even today California is still burning. I don't see people flocking there or to the other states that have been hit with flooding, hurricanes or tornadoes.

Maybe because these people do all that they can to take care of there own and do not depend on everyone else to pay hotel bills and buy them new houses.

Sorry, but the mess is still there because most of the residence left it that way.

The simple answer is they will never do it because they have been trained that the Federal Government is responsible for raising their sorry @#$ from the cradle to the grave. I am from Louisiana and I know these people because I was raised with them and know how they think. I feel sorry that anyone has this mentality but it is the fault of their leadership that has told them the government is responsible for everything and that you do not have to help yourself. I saw videos and know people that went through hurricane Rita that damaged more of southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas far worse than Katrina damaged the New Orleans area and as soon as the storm passed through people were outside starting clean up on their own and not waiting for a handout.

I think the real question is what the hell are you talking about? Have you even come down to the greatest city in the world? Or do you just sit around watching CNN? Bickering? Waiting? You don't know what you're talking about. You're a ******* idiot. Come down here and stop your incessant whining and see that you are completely wrong.

It would benefit you to learn about the human mind. About the long term effects of natural disasters, complete loss, post-trauma, hopelessness, etc. It's easy to stand by with the answers from our easy chairs, but we mustn't presume that the people in New Orleans have the same states of mind that we do. Tremendous loss such as that that they experienced has long term emotional consequences that must be dealt with before anything else can heal. That is human nature.

I don't know but ever since I heard it was a "chocolate city" I've been planning to go.
I love chocolate.
If they would make Baton Rouge into a "wine & cheese" city I might move to Louisiana.

Aw, come on now! It's so much easier for them to sit around demanding that everyone else take care of their problems for them. It was always a cesspool, and it's going to be even more of one now and forever 'cause they ain't gonna do sh*t.

when they aquire enough money without putting the US in more debt [donations from people like us], they can probably do some stuff. although they have already started cleaning up.
