Medically, marijuana has the following uses:
*appetite stimulant
*pain reliever for certain illnesses such as cancer, AIDS and other diseases.
*relieve glaucoma and certain neurological illnesses such as epilepsy, migraine and bipolar disorder.
*relieve nausea for chemotherapy patients.
A synthetic version of the major active chemical in marijuana THC, is available in many countries in the form of a pill as the prescription drug dronabinol (Marinol) is used to reduce arterial blockages.
*A sublingual spray derived from its extract has also been approved for treatment of multiple sclerosis in Canada as the prescription drug Sativex - this drug may now be legally imported into the United Kingdom and Spain on prescription.

I personally do not smoke pot or have not since I was in my early 20's. makes me hungry, tired and paranoid but, my brother had AIDS and could not eat so some well meaning friends went out and bought the best pot they could find. Now my brother had never smoked so he had basically a bad paranoid experience. I would have gotten some low to mid grade and had him try a little. It is just like any other medication dosage is important. A positive experience I know of with pot was when my dog was diagnosed with cancer . my dog stayed right away from any smoke cig or pot but, all of a sudden when a friend who smokes quite regally was smoking bear would go right up and inhale it. This became a regular thing andI ended up buy some and he would come over and nudge me to light it.His face relaxed, he ate more and lived for one and one half years more than hte vet said he would. one morning i found him on the porch. I truly believe that it helped him and would have helped my brother if he had been weaned into it. Several sick friends say that it is a life saver. So what is the big deal about letting people use it?

Marijuana is not addictive. As a hospice nurse, I had many patients and their families who found marijuana to be the most effective and safest medicine for nausea. Many of my patients were able to live a little longer and a little more comfortably because they had the increased appetite with which to eat, thanks to marijuana. Also, alcoholics who developed high blood pressure and could not or would not have a drink to relax . . .as most people harm themselves truly by doing . . .found marijuana to be more effective and without the side effects of truly dangerous, more commonly prescribed medications for anxiety, such as Ativan. As a nurse, I wish we could use Marijuana on children who present to the ER having been horribly raped or tortured or otherwised abused. So many medications that can be and are given to such children to help them emotionally survive are really dangerous and alter the child's state of consciousness too much. The last thing they need is to feel woozy or disoriented or sedated. Marijuana is what those kids need. I know it.

It has been used to kill pain that is otherwise intractable -- like the pain from some cancers. I've also heard it can be benefical to people with glaucoma but I am not sure of how that works.

It should be available for anyone who needs it for medical reasons. It's a natural substance that comes from the earth. Better than a manmade chemical in my opinion.

It is only used to alleviate pain, that is why marijuana is addictive. I don't think it should be used at all and should be annihilated and extinct.
