This is not a recommendation, but a commandment. A commandment which I don't believe many obey, including myself.

The "Theme" of that verse is YOU, not your neighbor.
You are to love yourself. You can't love your neighbor without loving yourself first.
You can't give what you don't have for yourself.
Many Christian Doctors use this verse to treat people with depression and low self esteem.
Good Q*.

Are you familiar with the Christian organization, "Voice of the Martyrs"? They publish a monthly magazine and have various resources pertaining to Christian persecution worldwide. The point is this: There are astounding accounts of Christians willing to love in spite of their own suffering!

So, if you hate yourself, does that mean it's okay to hate your neighbor?
Just kidding.
Actually, I think I do a pretty good job at this. I tend to like most people I meet, unless they give me a reason to not like them--like being rude, obnoxious, etc.

There are different religions that don't obey the commandments of God as pronounced in the bible, yet they do have faith in a similar God and obey him of their own as presented of their books.

as far as the bible goes, to love our "neighbor" means the people we see each day, not the person that lives right next door...but to answer your question i would say too few of us all should (care for) (respect) are "fellow man" i would say the odds are 1 in 100,000,000,000,000.

We all do it sometimes and pat our selves on the back for it. The tough part is to do it all the time. That's what I need to work on anyway.

If we all worked harder at this, regardless of belief, just imagine the result.

I do. I try to love people for who they are, not what they do. I'm trying my hardest to be like Him.
