Was there a recall recently? Cats do have kidney failure for multiple reasons, not just from the food. Unless your vet backs up the claim via an autopsy as to what the cause was, you really can't shout this out over the internet. You need to have proof. Mine has kidney failure as an ongoing thing for the past 3 years. He gets a blend of 4 different foods plus raw and some cooked meats. He's 18, his system is slowing down and the kidney failure is part of normal aging.

We have Siberians and the breeder recommended Iams; I never really thought about it until I saw a few Questions/Answers here. So I'm looking around for something new and this site (see below) lets you compare ingredients from several kinds of foods and has definitions for each ingredient. Some of these ingredients are sickening; Iams seemed OK on the site, better than many, but I am going to try something else.
As far as the abuse, I could not tell what I was seeing on the video PeTA set up; certainly there were terrible images, but I have no idea where these came from. I certainly hope Iams has stopped using certain contractors for these animal tests; it seems needless. For crying out loud, cats eat mice, rats & birds; how hard can it be to make catfood?

Natural Balance has a chicken and brown rice that is an excellent food. Try some other products too. Just read the label on the bag. The first two ingredients should be a meat source (no by-product meal) and the third would be rice, pea, oats, tapicoca (no corn). None of the quality foods use corn as their filler.
I was just looking at Eagle Pack on their website. They have a dry food (Holistic Select) which has duck, brown rice and chicken. You can locate a retailer at their site by clicking in your zip code. Eaglepack.com should do it.
It is best to rotate cat foods so that your cats are not always eating the same food. I usually rotate among three brands. To start your cats off and get them off the Iams please click on my name at the icon for a "recipe" for switching dry cat foods. It's very important to do it gradually.

you know some people might tell you otherwise but Purina One is very good. It's lower on a lot of the corn-meal by products and other stuff a cat shouldnt have. By nature cats are carnivores and should eat a food high in protein and real meat. Read the ingredients on the label if corn meal or gluten meal or any type of non meat is the primary ingredient then I would stay away from it. If a meat is listed 1st then go for it. Also supplement your cat's diet with wet food. It's often higher in meat content. Sheba has one of the highest meat contents. However dont feed too much wet food because it's high in fat. One Sheba will last a week at my house. I cut it into four pieces and feed one piece every other day or every two days and just refrigerate the left overs.

Old Mother Hubbard Brand Cat Food & Cat Treats
My cats couldn't eat seafood either but loved this brand. It's available at most if not all pet care / food stores.
I learned from a vet friend that when you are looking for food for your pet, dog or cat, you should check the label having at minimum the first 2 ingredients of meat. This is the healthiest choice. Beware of dog food made of protein but that protein being of ground up bones. It's not the same and your pet will suffer for it in the long run and your vet bills will be higher too.
If you think your pet would like it buy the smallest bag/box and try it. If the pet doesn't like it you can return it, but just in case always ask first. You can always suppliment with tuna mixed in too!

Believe it or not I have found that at Walmart there brand(special kitty) is great. I have about 40 cats....inside and out and they all do very well on that. About once a week I will mix one or two cans of special kitty with the crunchys for a treat. Make sure though if you buy the dry mix that you get the bag that is blue. The other mixture makes all my cats sick. There kitten food is also very good to...

My cat is finicky and after trying several brands she liked "'Science" blend, get it at pet smart with hair ball control. A little expensive but it goes in kitty and not all over the floor.
