They probably are what are commonly called "floaters."
Is your "doctor" an ophthalmologist, or just an optometreist? Be sure to get a thorough exam from an ophthalmologist, and tell her that you may have floaters. She'll know what to look for.

floats, do you work around smoke or smoke yourself? that could be why, especially if you wear lenses, the eye doctor can give you some drops or whatever they have, to treat this. five years is a long time, do something soon, before the whole eye is affected / infected . the floaters are indicators of an actual scratch or dust particle, stuck there for so many years. i believe you wore your lenses, in a smokey, environment. you have to go get your refraction anyway, especially, now that you are seeing floaters all day. very aggravating, i am sorry for your condition. you should fare well, after a doctor visit. God bless...

That happened to me for a few years...it never changed, but it just went away. Hasn't happened in several years.
Mine wasn't ALWAYS like your question suggests, only a few times a week. You sure it's all the time?
My Optometrist couldn't see anything either and I tried switching from my contacts to glasses, but it made no difference so I went back to contacts (I hate glasses).
I'd say as long as you can see and it doesn't hurt...don't worry about it.

Sounds like floaters or floaties. I have them- I got them when I was pregnant. You do need to go to an eye doctor however since they can be a sign of retina detachment.

Sounds like floaters. Harmless, as long as it does not attach to the retina. Smokers are more prone to get them.

I have quite a few and it's very annoying, nothing can be done. If they suddenly get bad, check with your eye doc. Otherwise, eventually you just have to learn to look "past" them and live with it.
I never smoked - so I have no clue if that aspect of it is true.

Floaters. They're harmless. We all have them.
