Would anyone have some advice on approaching a business to sponsor your wedding? I know I've heard it done and I'd really like to get some help on paying for my upcoming wedding. Not necessarily monetary, but maybe donated items for the centerpieces and such.

OK folks. Not ONCE did I say I was a star or all that. The deal here - if you can read- is that i'm trying to find a way to help out with the wedding costs. I would offer advertisement to the businesses and announce that they helped out with the wedding. What in that reads : I'M A STAR?

In addition, I found out about the sponsorships from stories of REGULAR PEOPLE. I've never heard of a star doing it. I'm sure it's happened..but I haven't read anything or heard about it.

Must not be THAT tacky since I've talked to several non-celeb people that think it's a good idea. I'm not asking if it's tacky or not..I'm asking about a good way to ask for a sponsorship.

Ok..let me explain a bit more. I'm not asking for MILLIONS of dollars here. I'm asking about donating stuff like glass bowls for the centerpieces, or getting half off....getting a discount for the invitations...stuff like that.

so I guess no one is going to give me actual advice on the question I asked. Instead, some of you are going to just tell me that it's tacky. Keep in mind that I didn't ask you that..I asked a question on HOW TO APPROACH A POTENTIAL SPONSOR

I'm not insulting anyone or saying that they are illiterate. I'm saying that they should read what my question is asking. I'm not asking for someone to tell me if I'm right or wrong in what I'm doing. I'm asking for advice on getting a sponsorship. If I were asking "Am i wrong in doing this" then I would understand the answers most of the people gave.

I think that your best bet in trying to get corporate sponsorship for any event would be to write the company a letter. Companies budget certain amounts for donations. Try to keep it professional and let the company know what they would be getting out of it. After sending the letters a follow-up phone call might help to secure a donation. Best of luck and congrats!!

wow...my best advice to you is only have what you can afford. If I went to a wedding that was sponsered I would probably be disgusted with the couple for not funding their own wedding, nor would I bring a gift either since you didnt have to pay for half the stuff there. I guess I have no sympathy for people trying to have a wedding that have no money because my husband and I had a very small wedding in the basement of my parents house with about 40 quests because we were young and had no money. If you really want a sponser then I would guess you could contact the stores and ask if they do wedding sponsering. If not then keep looking, but if so then I guess you can get something. Mose so, I thinks its the advertisement that looks tacky.

Let me put it to you like this you're not Star Jones so in terms of having someone sponsor your wedding don't be tacky you save up like the rest of the normal free thinking society. Most couples will go and set up a separate bank account and would start saving up for their wedding that way by taking a little out of their paychecks or whatever they could contribute each week or month and add what the parents would pay if the parents offered to chip in and let it accrude interest. The only time you see these companies sponsoring weddings are for celebrities and that's in exchange for the exposure and promotion of their products.

Maybe you should call those "regular people" you mention because being in the biz I can tell you I have never seen a sponsored wedding that was not news-worthy.
Basically, companies that sponsor do so because they will make money off it via the exposure.
It's tacky anyway.

I could help you, but since you have berated eveyrone else who had the guts to criticize you (that was sarcasm) I won't. My advice is try being nicer to people. Insuating that the people you are asking to help you are stupid or illiterate will not get you any kind responses. Frankly, is is not your question that makes us all think you acting like a snotty little princess, but your response to the answers. Why should we help you after the comments you have made? Godd luck to your fiance'. Sounds like he will have his hands full.

They only do that for advertising reasons. They donate items to big celebrities so that all the world will see that "Britney Spears" is wearing "white diamonds perfume".......thats just an example. I've never heard of any place just donating things for a wedding. If you cant afford it then you cant afford. Good luck!!

I don't think it's "tacky" at all. Only a truly superficial person would waste thousands of dollars on one friggin day! Kudos to you for your smarts. Save the dough for the honeymoon!!
I hope you get the info you need.

Call local television stations, see if they are willing to host you wedding. Then, once you have a TV host station, tell those you are interested in for business wise (bridal shops, floral shops, salons, etc.) they will get free marketing at your televised wedding.
Can't hurt.
Good luck Hon!

I have never heard of that! Make sure you do a speech at the reception that says... "and this wedding was brought to you by..." and name your sponsors!

This is a wedding not Nascar. Just because you are planning on scoring that night doesn't mean you are going to the winner's circle.
