until it was medication time and then I realized where it was (so shoot me, I had my 2 children home, one of which had 2 doctor's appts and I had a drywall guy over to fix the hole in the ceiling from the a/c guys who put their foot through it - I'm not just an insensitive, uncaring boob - I love my cat).

The meds are Clavamox drops and Prazosin (he has a spastic bladder right now, possibly from some strange cystitis that doesn't appear to produce bacteria).

Anyway, I gave him the doses tonight without even thinking about refrigeration and only after I gave them to him did I see they needed refrigeration. DOH! What do I do? Will it make him sick or just reduce the efficacy of the drugs? Thanks so much.

Thanks to those of you who actually participated in the question.

And to "catloverme," you know nothing about me, so you should really shutup. Unless you can tell me that you have *never* screwed up anything in your life, you can take your hypocritical attitude and shove it where the sun don't shine, dig witch? As it so happens, every single animal I've had in my lifetime has been a rescue. Three of the five charities I choose to donate to are animal charities. My cats are kept indoors to keep them safe from cars and other animals.

So, smartass, I can live with having made a mistake on a crazy day. You, unfortunately, have to live with your judgmental snotty self - oh boy, I'd SO rather be me.

I did call the vet this morning and went in to get the new meds. He said the only problem would be that the effectiveness would be diminished and it wasn't that big a deal. The antibiotic Clavomax was prophylactic to ward off a possible infection rather than to treat an existing one. The Pravosin was to help with bladder spasms - he said it was similar to a kitty Valium LOL!

Call your Vet and get a new prescription right away. I believe these are antibiotics and do need refrigeration (Clavamox drops do, and the other probably does). Don't give your cat any more of the warmed meds, as their chemistry changes in the heat. Best wishes.

Rhonda is right. Clavamox as well as anything else that says refrigerate needs to be kept cold as it will alter the medicine if it gets to hot. I wouldn't give the cat anymore doses until you can get in touch with your veterinarian. Just call them A.S.A.P. and let them know what happened. Who knows, if you explain the situation, perhaps they'll give you a discount to buy more meds. After all, it would show you really care about your cat by going back to get the meds again! Good luck.

Prazosin For Cats

The clavamox is usually given for a period of ten days. So one afternoon without refrigeration is not going to "spoil" it to the extent it would harm your cat.

Check with the vet office tomorrow and see if you can continue to use it for the remaining nine days.

well i would give him the medicine until i could get another set of them from the vet there is a reason for it to be refrigerated im just not sure what it is possibly when you call to the vet they can tell you if it is ok to just keep using what you already have...hey people make mistakes dont feel bad

I would call your vet in the morning to get their opinion and if all else fails get a new prescription from them tomorrow. If the cat doesn't puke tonight chances are everythings fine, but definitly call your vet to know for sure in the morning.

Don't give him any more until you can talk to your vet. Also, you can give him cranberry juice to drink to help with the bladder...
