HI!!! The round shape made it easier to deep fry evenly and the hole in the middle enabled the centre to fry at the same rate as the outside, thereby faster and more evenly. Truly one of mankinds greatest culinary advancements. If you don't believe it, why is that donut companies are expanding around the world so quickly?
