I went to a mosque last week and said my shehada and became a muslim. the guy at the mosque said he would call me later in the week and help me understand what being a muslim was all about but he never called me. i know i have to pray 5 times a day but don't know much else.

The answer to your question is to pray to whoever you feel comfortable with. We in the Zaidi sect believe in 99 gods and we don't limit ourselves like other sects of Islam. The Quran says let there be no compulsion in religion.

Hi here is what Muslim believe in! They pray only to one God the father and no one else. Mohammed was a prophet only! No true Muslim in their right mind prays to him! They believe he was a messenger only. Matter afact they believe it is a grave sin to worship anyone else other than god including Mohammad. This is the reason they do not have any pics of him so no one could worship him. Sunni and Sheite believe in different things kind of like Protestants and Catholics. I am afraid that Muslims do not have missionaries like the Christians and they do not try to convert anyone thus they spend very little time on newly converted people. Most people come to Islam on their own and it is probably tough for the new converts. If you live in a big city find a good mosque and talk to a Imam. There is tons of literature out there on Islam! I have some Muslim friends and they are quiet nice! They are fasting for the month of Ramadan!

The Most Fundamental Principle of Islam is "Tawheed" (Declaring and having Faith and Strong Belief in Oneness of ALLAH). if anyone Does NOT adhere to "Tawheed", he is NOT a Muslim. The very first 'kalma' (Verse), u would have read states the same thing :
"There is NO GOD but ALLAH, Mohammad is HIS Prophet".

Call your shehada once again, or ask some of your Islamic friends about the religion, and try doing whatever you can to achieve your goals! You could learn some Arabic, so you can then try to read the Quran. Also, I think that Muslims go on a pilgrimage, called a haaj to Mecca at least once during their lifetimes.
As for your question, be faithful to who you believe in. I don't think anyone but you can answer it. In my understanding, Allah is the God and Mohammed is a holy messanger.
I am sorry if my information is not correct and if I insulted anyone. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Neither because Mohamed is just a man and Allah doesn't exist. but there is a true GOD and that is GOD from the Bible. The difference between Christianity and Muslim/other religions is that in the Muslim/other religions you have to do good things to get to heaven/afterlife whereas christianity it has already been done for you when Jesus Christ (the son of GOD) died on the cross, rose to life on the third day and therefore took the punishment that everybody deserves, so by accepting him you will receive Eternal Life. So do you think you deserve to go to heaven? I know I don't deserve to go to heaven for I have sinned and ignored the one true GOD just like everyone else has. the problems with other religions is that they don't have anyone to recieve the punishment that they deserve.

considering my dear brother (in Humanity) sayyed al afghany...who mentioned praying to Mohammed or Allah....
i would like to remind you that when you said the shehada last week in the mosque it was "I testify that there is only one God and Mohamed is his prophet" is that right?......if it was like that.....then you should pray to allah...not mohammed becaus mohammed is a prophet! and God(ALLAH) is the creator of the universe.
also...please take consideration that the branch of Sayyed is a zeidy...they have more than 99 god.....that is not acceptable and is not ISLAM!......if beliveing in more than one god ...then you didnt go far from christianity or so!.....

as salaamu alaikum Allah only,there is no diety and no one is worthy of worship but Allah.you need to find a sister to teach you how to pray as women pray a little differently than men.if you need a koran go to www.freequran.com and they will send you one.also www.know the messenger.com will be helpful.there are websites to help you learn prayer just type in salah.it is not permissable to have a male teach you unless he be your husband,maybe the Imams wife could help you.If there is anything I can do please email me at any time,wa alaikumu salaam

Well, that is stupid but, since you are trolling, pray to Allah 5 times a day (Mohammed is just his prophet), make a pilgrimage to Mecca, give alms to the poor, don't eat pork, get circumcised late in life, and hate Jews irrationally.
Addendum: To smileycat: There are no good translations of the Koran. Per Islamic belief, the Koran can only be read in Arabic, all translation is flawed.
Adendum2: What is up with all the thumbs down? I am the only unbiased honest broker on here. No wonder Arabs always get shat upon in the arena of inernational politics.
