teach him not to be so protective. he probably takes things and is protective over them because he had to fight with other dogs for things before.
you can start from the positive or negative teaching.
the positive way is start petting him and touching his mouth. praise him for this. repeat it and you can move on to taking things. you have to let him know that you are taking his things to help him.
the negative way (well not really negative) is telling him no when he takes things. teach him that he is not allowed to take your things. and praise him when he doesnt. ex. put a dish towel in front of him. tell him "no" or "leave it" or something to let him know that he is not supposed to take it. at first put it in front of him and take it away really quickly. then praise him. later on, you can put it in front of him longer.
try either of these to see if they work. remember, always praise your dog by treats or pats. make sure he knows the difference between a good thing and a bad thing. also, only train for 5-10min. sessions everyday. good luck!

Well I don't know what to do about everyday household objects, but my dog used to do that only with those greasy animal bones with all the flaky nasty skin on it..... It was like she was a whole different dog when she had one, like she was on drugs and i couldnt control her! I took them away and yelled "NO!!!!!!!!!! " Then I would put the bone on top of the refridgrator where she could see it but couldnt get it.
and then I eventually let her nibble on the bone while I held it and pet her. If she growled I would take it right back and do it all voer again. An obidence teacher told me to do that because it teaches a dog that YOU feed the dog and he should be grateful and NEVER EVER snap or bite the hand that feeds him.
It worked but you could tell she didn't like it, she stopped growling because she knew I would take it away from her if she did.
Dont really know if that helps.... good luck

One thing I absolutely will not tolerate is a dog being possessive of it's food/toys/bones/etc.
The easy way to resolve this issue is with the dogs food dish. Every time the dog is fed, they must waite for permission after their dish is placed on the floor. Then as they are eating I put my hand right in their food and mix it up, one little sign of aggression, the dish gets picked up. 15 minutes later go through the whole process again.
AFTER the problem is resolved at the food dish THEN the same lesson can be applied to toys, rawhide, bones, toys and the like.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/dogtrainingcourse
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

YOu need the NILF program NOW. Nothing In Life is Free.
EVERYTHING belongs to YOU.
No more bones until you get this under control. NONE.
Ignore him if he takes something of yours unless it will hurt the dog. Do not chase or corner him. Just walk away. He is doing it for your response- when he doesn't get one, he'll quit. Sounds like a game to the dog. Not funny though. Growling from a dog is BULLshit. Especially to you.
Do not ignore this- take him to a behaviorist if you need to. Do not rehome him to anybody who is not completely aware of this problem. (just in case you can't manage it)

It is natural for a dog to growl when u go near him while he is eating food. This is because of the genes he has inhereted from his ancestors. The best way to protect ur things is to keep them out of his reach.Do not beat him because this will make him coward.

Watch that Hispanic guy who is a dog whisperer on Animal Planet. That guy knows everything about dogs, and I know he's covered your issue in some episodes. I think his name is Cesar or something, but he's awesome.
