I find that recipe on the back of the Quaker can has WAAAAAY too much oatmeal in it! If you make it again, flatten them out w/ your hands first.

maybe they are too dry because of the oats. If you want them flat add cooking spray to the cookie sheet (add a lot) and they will get flat. I learned that the hard way when I was making oatmeal cookies and when it said not to grease the pan, i still did. Good Luck!

Using butter in the dough (not margarine) can help the cookies bake flatter. Also, adding baking powder can have the same effect because it neutralizes the acidity in the cookies, thus not allowing them to rise as high.

too much flour. how are you measuring the flour. unlike most ingredients in a recipe you do not pack, tamp or settle flour in the measuring cup. just take a spoon at a time and put into the cup until it comes up to the measurement that you need.LIGHTLY LEVEL IT OFF WITHOUT PRESSING IT DOWN>

Thats funny I always double the oats. I think you left out an ingredient and just wasn't aware that you did. It happens, we've all left out something!
