I'd go with a foam topper instead of a bed. They are way cheaper and if you dont like them, you don't have to replace a whole bed. Plus, you have to make sure you get the right kind. The heavier you are, the thicker it has to be (2 in, 3 in, 5 in) and different firmness.

I prefer the memory foam pillows myself, but I am looking for a topper too :)

I think it's very much personal preference. I went into a Brookstone or Sharper Image and I didn't like the feel at all. I felt like lead in it.

However, I did love the memory foam pillow top mattress we bought. The main part is regular, with a great type of memory foam on top.

You need to lie down on a bed and try it out.

A woman i work with has returned three different brands because they eventually (within 2 months) developed a sag. She IS NOT a heavy woman. I went to Wal-Mart and bought a memory foam pad for $50.00 and I love it. Only things is it slides a bit. So i got some of that skid-proof shelf liner and it slows the skidding process.

I tried one at the Tempurpedic store and thought it was like sleeping on a bed of cottage cheese. I was afraid I would end up with a cellulite pattern embossed into my butt. Even if the price was not so outrageously high I would never get one.

I heard they're good but heavy as hell. And I roll around a lot and change position so it felt kinda weird.

I laid on one at a matress store and it was really comfy but I don't know if it was worth the extra money.
