Muhammad (pbuh) was a human, just like anyone of us, but he was given a special 'gift' by God. As Muslims we believe that his heart was 'cleansed' twice in his lifetime. Angel Gabriel opened up Muhammad's heart for the second time (before he visited Heaven - the Isra' Me'raj miracle) and, cleansing it of all sins that had accumulated in it from the time of the first cleansing performed when he was five years old, the angel replaced the heart back in his chest.

So he did make mistakes (to err is human) but not when it comes to Islam as that is all about divine intervention.

Yes

But what infallible means depends on which Muslims you ask. Shia believe all the prophets were absoultely infallible in all areas. Sunni believe that prophets are infallible in matters of the religion - exactly like the Catholic belief concerning the Pope.

Well Muslims do believe in that, we believe that all the prophets (including Muhammad and Savior ) are infallible because they are messengers of God and they act and say according to prophecy, teaching the words of God so that they will not teach people any thing wrong that will make them punished. In our believes we don't think that pope is infallible like the prophet Muhammad because only prophets are infallible. Pope is like Emam in Islam who is a person who teach people and guide them to the right side but hi is like them, he could do something wrong in his life.

It's my understanding that they don't so much believe Muhammad was infallible as much as they believe the Quran is infallible... much the same way we know that the Bible is infallible but prophets were human. We, as Christians, believe their words in the Bible are true because they are inspired, ordained, by God. Muhammad wrote many more papers beyond the Quran... not all were included however. Muslims believe the Quran is inspired through Muhammad by Allah.

Muhamed as any other prophet is a man.

Having a messanger to be in the form of man makes us in better position to follow his guidance as he is like us.

We can not say that He has super power not better capacity which we can not have so we will not be able to follow him.

As a man he is subject to mistakes and God corrected those for him to be a model for us as we can repent the same way he did.

We don't think the pope is infallible. You THINK we believe that. Learn your facts before saying foolishness like that. And about Mr. M. I don't know nor do I care. People who think foolish things like that about catholics needs to do research and talk to a priest and you will find out instead of making false accusations.

No. Muhammad was human and just as succeptible to error as any other prophet or human. Granted, the prophets erred less, but that's why they were prophets. ;-)
However when it came to religious matters, he was under direction of God, Infalliable as He is.
