Considering that you can get a 99, was your plan to scrub the underside of ships during your enlistment?

By all means you should retest... That score is doing nothing but holding you back from career oppertunities in the armed forces. In fact I would continue retesting until you got a score of 80 or better. The best thing to do during those tests is to not get overly psyched up, and to trust yourself to choose what is right. I scored a 98 on my first try and I had any job I wanted in the US Army offered to me... I don't consider myself especially bright either so just know that you can score higher easily.

Check out your lines scores also, just because you scored a 42 don't mean you can't get a good job! You may have done well in the Auto Shop and Electronics section and be able to get one of the best jobs offered in the Navy. Ask your recruiter to request your line scores. But if you are adamant about taking it again to score better, go ahead! Good Luck and Thanks for considering!

I'd look at what you wanna do I know for what my brother wanted a low score wasn't bad but other rates need higher scores. I scored high enough for everything I wanted to do so I took my first score even though in my mind it was low. (sorry I'm an overachiever at times) But i know what my friends, family and recuiter told me," If you scored high enough for the rate you want why risk it?" If not retest but be sure you breath and don't think to long on an anser the test is both based on your knowledge and your time.
Good Luck

42 is pretty low and may well count against you for a job choice BUT depending on when you took the test I was told that this will stay on file for 2 years with ANY of the services..so basically that test score stands but it does give you a nice amount of time to bring those scores up............also a 42 would not get you into the Air Force [I think]

I recommend re-testing. When I was on recruiters assistance I did the practice asvab and just went through checking answers randomly and got a higher score than 42. Yes re-take it. And talk to your recruiter about which parts you need to work on the most.

You could always retest, but the lower score is the score that will count. I would suggest Deciding exactly what mos you want. decide accordingly from there. If you feel you can do better, Try......The navy will hold higher standards. Go Army.

Personally, I would retest. Just remember though, if you do retest and that score is lower, the ASVAB counts your LOWEST score your ACTUAL score.

Good luck!

You could retake it if you wanted to but you only need a 31 to enlist. Obviously 10 points higher then the minimum isn't great but the score is only used for career path and enlistment incentives anyway so you could decide to keep it.

retest..there will come times in your career will they will have new jobs open, and usually they will look at your ASVAB scores to determine if you qualify.
