Because man just felt the need to establish something to recognize that what they thought was the truth. However I encourage you not to get so caught up in religion just know that there is a God, he's coming back soon and that he loves you. Try hardest to work on your relationship with him.

You are raising a very intellignet question and Quran states that from Adam to Judgment day there have been only one religion what is Islam
It is the religion of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhamed.
There is one God and we are God created so logically there is a single religion, yet they were communicated along the history through different messangers.
Now, I think everything fits well

I believe in many different gods and goddesses.

so when i answer your question it is a Pagan view of monotheistic religions.

i think that there are so many branches of the different religions because anytime that someone has a bit of inspiration no matter how Divine it may be, there is a church doctrine that will tell them that they are wrong. if a man truly believes that his inspiration is from God than he has no choice but to break off and form a new church to match his inspiration.

what would the church look like today, if they had adopted all of the different inspirations that went into making so many different factions of Christianity.

same can be applied to any monotheistic religion

Some religions have multiple gods, and most religions have different views of what god is.

its called Denominationalism, something Jesus prayed would not happen. The Bible predicted that it will happen and warns against it. In the first century, there was only One church. Over the years, Satan has divided religions into the numerous sects we have today. then those divisions taking part of Gods word, knowing to have only one God, not always only Gods word.

Who said there was only one god? The hindus belive that there are 300,000 gods. the ancient greeks also had more than one god. infact the word god is derived from the word gods. So the plural was first. i believe in one god, he is green and accepted in all major shopping outlets in exchange for everything including love.
