If you have a digital camera already, it probably has the option for use as a web camera. 3 of my 4 digital cameras have this option --- including the $16. "keychain" camera from Wal-Mart. My Agrus DC-1500 ($20.) works well. Software included in Windows XP allows you to use a camera on the internet. If you buy a web camera, it will have software included.

normally webcams come with instalation cd-roms. If not, most of the programmes that use web-cams (eg, messenger) can automatically detect if one is plugged in.
