Hi! I am bulimic and have been for ten years now. I have done everything in terms of treatment- I'm sorry, folks, but therapy is a bunch of garbage and does not treat the chemical issue behind it all. They have recently found that bulimics tend to have a particular form of insulin resistance - the binges give us a high rather than revolt us (like it would a normal person.) Anyway, they have begun to treat people with glucophage as they treat diabetics and I have had some relief due to it. I have responded positively to some antidepressants (Lexapro and Paxil) but nothing has helped long-term- my body acclimates to the drug and the medication is no longer effective. Once you are bulimic for awhile, it becomes part of your routine and activities (therapy does address this and helps in overcoming this aspect.) I hate to admit it, but I enjoy the fact that I can enjoy eating what I want without gaining weight. However, the side effects are horrible- limited social life, destroyed teeth, gastro-intestinal issues, popped blood vessels in the eyes, nosebleeds, headaches, etc. The only real way to handle it is to accept it or to fight it, yourself, with incredible will power and a true desire to live normally. Avoid the trigger foods or have a loved one stay with you for several days (less likely to binge) and that will give you a good start. God bless and take care!

i was anorexic-nervosa. That's when you starve your-self but if you eat something you purge your-self and puke. After being admitted to the hospital a couple of times I realized that I wanted help. My doctor put me in rehab and the support of my family I got through it. You can not get through it on your own. It wont go away it it will always be there. There is more to it than starving your-self or eating a bunch of food and purging your-self or taking several laxatives. There's more to your problem there are other reasons why you are doing it other than to loose weight. Maybe there is a control issue that you don't even realize. And the only thing that you can control is throwing up your food. After rehab and therapy it all made sense why I was doing it and before I knew it I over came it. I am 5'7 and I got down to 98 lbs. I know what I'm talking about!!! Please get help!!!

Yes, I did. I was anorexic and bulimic for a few years. I was an adult mother and I weighed 82 lbs., down from 175. A friend of mine looked and me and said, "before you die from doing this stupid nonsense, could you please sign your child over to me so that he could have a good life even though you'll be dead". Eye opener for sure. Nothing good comes out of bulimia or anorexia. Just harm to yourself. Eat slower, smaller portions. I don't believe that everyone with an eating disorder has deep routed trouble. Some of us just want to be thin, but get a bit carried away. If you do have issues that you need to face, get help. Your school counselor (if your young), church, family, or just one really good honest friend. Life is too short to waste time being sick when you don't have to be.

i never experienced it first hand but i did have a close friend that went through it she realized she had a problem and went to 'group'
it was like counsleing in school where she and other people with eating disorders talked about and learned to eat healthy without hurting themselves. she did get to an extreme where her teeth were being effected by it. if you are bulimic or are considering it's really not a good descision and you should try and talk to a guidence counsler or someone you trust.

You should see a doctor, this is very bad if you are, it can rot your teeth and damage your throat. The bad thing is you will probably not lose weight. Most bulimic people are thick!
